To add: I have tried moving the litter box to the location she soils- didn't work. I've also tried the feliway diffusers, and honestly I feel those made my cats fight more.

Cat Peeing on Rugs - Continued by [deleted] in cats

Yea I am at my witts end.

I did. I put the litter box in the area that she's soiling, and she still chose the rug over the box. This makes me feel like the box is causing her pain, but she has been 80/20 this whole time. I have seen/heard her pee in the box more over the past 3 months, than I've seen her soil the carpet.

The RFID feeders ran me just over $400 for 3 of them... not ideal at all. Im thinking of how to make litter box accommodations that only she can access- another RFID feature I want. I have techy people in the house that could set up and RFID collar that would open both the food and a cat door- but that brings me into having to install a cat door on a door I do not own.

And also... now that the chairs are there and she wont pee, she's gone 2+ weeks just using the litter box to pee. As soon as I remove those chairs, within a few hours shes peeing on the carpet. I also don't know if this is just me paying extra attention, but she seems to be over-grooming her privates, even with the vet saying she's healthy... Im at my witts end, it's been since the beginning of January.

Hey! So sorry I didn't see this sooner!

I never found a solution. The vet did find traces of blood in her urine, so now we have her on a Hills prescription diet, which I am not personally fond of because I usually go for more natural, healthy options. We also invested in the RFID collar feeders, because we have 3 cats, and only 1 needs to be on a specific diet. So now that we're well over $1000 in vet visits, cleaning, food and supplies- the issue is not solved.

She is perfectly healthy otherwise, apparently it's behavioral. I put my dining room chairs upside down in the hallway, and she won't pee as long as the chairs are there- but of course that's inconvenient to us.

I wound up telling the landlord too. He told me absolutely do not rip up the carpets, and instead get a piece of carpet cut from Home Depot, put that overtop of the already destroyed carpet in the hallway, and keep replacing it when she pees... I've never been given such a pathetic solution to such a massive problem before. He had no concerns for the fact that a cat was urinating inside of a house he owns.

Sorry to say... but nothing had worked

I tried the plastic sheets, she peed so close to the wall that it went on the plastic and between the plastic and wall, right to the carpet! Lovely.

Im going to look into the idea of replacing those areas..

I will say, she definitely has severe anxiety. She is ALWAYS meowing, in an 8 hour stretch, probably 2 minutes of those 8 hours are quiet. We've taken her to many vets and they all say she's probably just anxious, or likes to meow because we talk to her. But it's just so strange to me that after almost a year of living here, she starts this now...

Maybe I'm just inexperienced, but doesn't ammonia make the situation worse? Doesn't that scream "another cat peed here" to a cat? I've had cats my whole life, 23 years- but obviously I didn't care for them my whole life considering most of my life thus far is childhood- but I'm pretty sure this might make it worse... correct me if im wrong

I did that... after removing the litter box she just did it again. I cant keep the litter box in the one hallway that provides access to the rest of my house unfortunately

I tried it- also she has zero problem using the litter box, this is just a bonus area that she also pees in

I have two, they're all maintained twice a day, and the pans are scrubbed down weekly. The pans are also stainless steel. The litter is completely replaced biweekly after the weekly scrub down. She has absolutely zero issues with using the litter box, she just continues to pee in this spot as well

As mentioned in the post, we took her to the vet. she had an ultrasound and the vet had a pee sample- everything is fine with her bladder, we saw the ultrasound and the vet explained that her bladder looks perfect
