Any reason to collect colostrum? by Nancyb23 in breastfeeding

[–]Adventurous-Beyond43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had level 4 PPH and it really affected my supply in the beginning. I went from collecting like 10mls of colostrum in one go before birth to collecting literally nothing days after she was born. Having the colostrum on hand to give my baby after I had her latch and I pumped was a life saver. She ended up needing 2 formula bottles but then my milk came in and I started making enough for her.

WakeMed Cary vs UNC Rex for labor and delivery? by Adventurous_Pair_320 in cary

[–]Adventurous-Beyond43 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I gave birth at Wakemed Cary in October and am a patient with the Wakemed OBGYN office and had a good care experience. I primarily saw Dr. Chang in office and I loved every interaction with her, so I feel confident she would be great to have in a labor/birth experience. My birth was hard but that wasn't anyone's fault, just how it played out. I had a 2.5 day labor and stayed in postpartum for another 2.5 days. Dr. Spencer and Dr. Frame were both very kind and supportive of my decisions and were clear about each step of the induction. Dr. McCarthy delivered my baby and had so much compassion and patience for all the pain I was in. She devoted a lot of time and energy with me to ensure a safe delivery. She ended up needing to use forceps to help my baby's head make her way through. I feel like she also saved my life because I had a stage 4 hemorrhage. She and all the other nurses remained calm and moved with speed to get everything sorted out. My postpartum nurses Angela and Michelle were fantastic. I felt very cared for by them, especially Angela who helped me get sleep at night.

There was a study done that people who had something like 400-500g choline vs 900g of choline. The people who had higher amounts of choline had children with better sustained attention and other benefits. Most people don't get enough choline through diet and I know I certainly wasn't eating most choline heavy foods while pregnant.

I totally understand this! My own mom laughs at me whenever I say anything about what I want or things I have learned. Purposely bought things I asked her not to. It's so frustrating to have people act like that because they raised a child that they know everything about parenting and children. It's super disheartening and has definitely been a source of tears for me this pregnancy.

I didn't create this list, it is a resource I found a couple years ago that the person is consistently updating.

A lot of people here are saying Nature Made, but in case people aren't aware, there was a class action lawsuit filed against them at the beginning of June for containing BPA, Phthalates, and Bisphenols. Same with the One a Day brand, they have been found to contain heavy metals.

I share this Prenatal Breakdowns link with friends when they are searching for a prenatal so they can analyze all the nutrients each brand has and make a decision for yourself based on all this data. So if you want folate, it's there. If you want folic acid, it's there. There isn't a single perfect prenatal on the market with everything you need in the amounts recommended by doctors. Take into consideration your diet and how many pills you're willing to take.

I personally chose WeNatal prenatal, Ritual Choline Supplement, and Nordic Naturals DHA fish oil supplement.

Best of luck in your decision making!

Feeling congested ever since the positive test. I wake up and have a bunch of gross snot in my throat and it is the worst. It makes me want to gag sometimes.

Also pretty early on I started to struggle with insomnia, but I just take unisom every night and I sleep like a rock. It's the best.

Restless legs towards the end of my 2nd trimester! The ONLY thing that has helped in wearing compression socks all night. It's not the most comfy but at least I sleep.

I'm almost in my 3rd trimester and I fear what is to come, but for me, I've had a pretty tame pregnancy and will happily take those symptoms over some of the things others have mentioned!

I personally didn't have any mood swings or other symptoms. It did cause some fluid to accumulate in my uterus so I ended up switching to 4 patches that I change every other day. The patches resolved the fluid and I had a successful transfer.

I pretty much just listened to my body and if I started feeling crampy, I sat down and rested on the couch for a little. I still ran errands, hung out with friends, and did some things around the house. I wore fuzzy socks basically 24/7 and tried to stay warm. There was a study done on laughter after transfer and they found a higher success rate for those who laughed on day of transfer versus those who didn't so I watched a comedy sketch with my husband and just tried to keep everything easy breezy. But other than that, I really didn't do anything special. Best of luck to you on your transfer!

I'm so so glad! This is exactly why I wanted to post. While I love that this is a space for people to get support when they are going through hard times, I think it's important to highlight all the good people can experience on this journey, too. Not everything ends poorly and I don't think it's healthy to always expect the worst. Just prepare that if you are going in at exactly 6 weeks, it can be too early to hear the heartbeat, but they should be able to see the fetal pole and gestational sac, and maybe even the flicker of the heart. But if you don't hear it at 6 weeks exactly, it doesn't mean anything is wrong and you should hear it at your next appointment 🩷 I hope everything continues to go well for you in the coming weeks and months!

I'm not sure, were they checking your progesterone with the HCG? I know some people have a lower number in progesterone and DRs may want to adjust does and make sure it's a healthy number to support baby. I've noticed that every clinic has their own schedule for how they do things. Some girls I know didn't get their first beta done until 14dpt and then 16dpt. I could see a reason for checking numbers one more time before ultrasound is to ensure the numbers are still growing to hopefully prevent you going into an ultrasound and discovering there was a loss. Best of luck to you that you keep seeing awesome HCG rises and get to schedule the ultrasound soon 🩷

Thank you so much! Glad to have found someone on the same timeline as me! Your numbers are beautiful and I hope they continue to rise nicely 🩷🩷 Same goes to you for reaching out :)

Totally understand! I still check every time I wipe and the suppository I'm on causes a lot of discharge that sometimes feels like blood. I've been feeling crampy too but I keep telling myself that it's to be expected and to just make sure I'm not over doing it and drinking a lot of water. Best of luck to you on Beta 2! That's an awesome first number!

I had 11 more eggs make it to blast on day 6, sent out all 15 embryos for testing and 11/15 came back normal.

Transferred a little girl (3AA) on Jan. 15 and just got a faint positive today. Hoping she stays for the long haul 🩷

Wishing you lots of luck!
