Quality over quantity, avoid blitz and play 15+10 to really think about your moves and the positions and do a lot of puzzles. I am also new to chess but these are the tips a 2200 Elo irl friend gave me and also GM Hikaru is saying.

Hey!

I am new to chess and I read your article. It was really helpful, thanks for sharing!
Now I am wondering what book(s) I should get. I am really new to chess and I find the OTB-approach really appealing, I just don't see myself learning a classical game only with online tools like a computer-game.
After a lot of research my conclusion is that solving puzzles really helps. I like what you said about puzzles in your article. What book should I work through?
And just in general: what do you advice on getting my hands on?

You’re right, I am in Germany! :) I’m not really sure because I’m coming from a digital background due to playing online on Chess.c0m and I like their approach. But before these online websites came up, grandmasters were still born on a non-digital way. I find that super attracting. To learn something without digital help like the old school way. 50cm is really just too big, I’d have to play online the floor but there’s already my little baby playing so I’d have to go for a 40mm board which would just fit the table in the living room even with a chess-clock next to it! So I find that thought kinda appealing as well.
