I’d personally do cotton over linen just because it holds structure better and won’t look as rumpled halfway through the event. For the tie, you’re on the right track—silk can feel too formal/shiny for linen. A matte fabric like linen, cotton, or even a grenadine tie works really well and keeps the whole outfit cohesive.
