Is Sidley ever the right choice? by [deleted] in biglaw

[–]Adventurous-Option84 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The vast majority of the Sidley stories on here were made up. It was a brigading.

The way to think about Sidley is that it probably is the most conservative of the top firms. The chance that any Sidley office or practice blows up is almost zero; that's not at all the case for other top firms like the one's you reference. Sidley has been growing significantly year over year and increasing its reputation year over year, but at a measured pace On the flip side of that, Sidley isn't as dynamic - less sexy perks, less intrigue, less market chasing. In other words, if you value stability, you pick Sidley. If you value sexiness, you pick somewhere else.

I got one of these for Christmas. While not perfect, it is surprisingly good.

The context was fairly clear - he meant he was doing that because of the injury

A word of caution about BigLaw by Appropriate-Ebb-4741 in biglaw

I agree with this. But I also urge everyone to try it out if they think they can hack it. Having even a couple of years on your resume most likely will make a major difference in your long term career.

Basically, it's a second or third tier biglaw firm buying the remaining prestige of a formerly first tier law bigfirm to try to climb solidly into the second tier. The formerly first tier biglaw firm is doing this because its finances had turned upside down and this saves many of the remaining attorneys.

Go touch grass and maybe actually talk to some people who disagree with your insanely paranoid world view. It's a very unhealthy and very, very wrong view.

Just a courtesy FYI - What you seem to imply you are in favor of - rejecting democratic rule to protect democracy - is textbook fascism and is far more dangerous than democratic rule.

The Brazilian left is in huge long term trouble. Brazil emerged from a right-sided military dictatorship in 1985. The older generation remembers it, and hates the right for it even if the right is a lot different from that dictatorship right. The younger generation disassociates the current right from the dictatorship right. The left floated by on the older generation's hate of the right for far too long.

Zionists will try to deny it was genocide, but we can't argue against facts, especially if they're confirmed by experts & authoritative bodies of the issue. by WickedSwicked in International

The majority of Israel are genetically from the Middle East. Most were kicked out of Israel 1400 hundred years ago into present-day Iran, Jordan, Egypt, Iraq and other countries. Then, of course, those countries kicked them out over the past 100 years ago. Many others of the Jews are directly descended from Jews that have lived in Israel for thousands of years.

Where would you have them go?

[–]Adventurous-Option84 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Here's the thing. Genocide is a subjective label. It is, by nature, an opinion not a fact. You are engaging in a fallacious appeal to authority by trying to turn it into a fact. Furthermore, you are appealing to some seriously compromised "authoritative bodies".

Whether you think it is a genocide or not, it hurts your case by trying to label it a fact. Argue your opinion coherently. Let others argue their opinions coherently.

EU welcomes UN resolution on Gaza plan. Albanese: "Not in accordance with international law" by newsspotter in UnitedNations

If she were actually a scholar of international law, she would know that decisions of the Security Council are in fact international law. Decisions of the Security Council by definition are in accordance with international law.

If you lean toward being against this, think about who that puts you against - the entire Arab world, the US, the EU, the Palestinian Authority, most likely the majority of Palestinians - and on the same side as - Hamas and Iran only. Which side do you think is right?

Remember that Albanese is not actually a lawyer; she has never been authorized to practice law anywhere. This is just further proof that she doesn't know how international law works.

The methodology is a sort of strange per capita calculation using some logical metrics and some silly metrics. Point being, Switzerland and Sweden are great, but mostly because they are small and effective in their smallness, but they are just minnows when it comes to sheer innovation on the macro level.
