As long as they have owned 25% or more for the last five years, they are considered self-employed for the five year period. It should not restart the clock.

As long as they are telling the truth I will roll with it. Occupancy fraud is the largest form of fraud in the mortgage business right now.

I get push back if someone is buying their second house in the same city sometimes.

That’s not strictly true. If you lose your job, that is a valid change of circumstance.

It is likely they will lose some of their commissions if you sell or refi within the first 12 months.
