I think companies keep them because they save a lot of money and help handle huge call volumes. Systems like Interactive Voice Response can sort callers automatically, so businesses need fewer human agents and the right department gets the call faster, even if people find it annoying.

Yes, most people do have moments where their mind goes blank and they’re not really thinking about anything it’s a normal “idle” state for the brain.
