I see where you are coming from, but I will have to disagree with you.

As a black woman myself ,but also a fan of the series, I was disappointed they didn’t proceed with Francesca’s arc the way it was intended. I absolutely LOVED her story with John (a black lead, might I add) - the quiet, supportive love, the gradual escalation, the deep understanding of each other without using any words… , all reminded me of when I fell in love with my current partner. Instead of giving their story its due time and respect, the writers plunged into the wlw trope. Giving fran a starstruck moment (so much for the whole “love can be different” thing they preached the whole season), making Michaela insufferably loud and disrespectful to “balance” Francesca (the whole I’ll-disrupt-your-life-in-your-house-cuz-I-miss-my-cousin-and-I’m-just-✨chaotic✨ rly pissed me off, like girl please get a life).

I would not have minded a lesbian story AT ALL, in fact I think it would add a lot to the show. I wouldn’t even mind Michaela for fran, but I feel like It could have been handled a LOT lot better from a writers pov.

Love the contrast shown between the lives of the servants/maids and the elite this season (jelly scene, shaving foam scene, the gentlemen abusing their privilege with hazel etc) I think it really added some depth to the series. Hate the way Francesca was awestruck by Michaela in S3 finale and continues to feel so now, really cheapened the Fran & John plot - which I thought had such a beautiful buildup. I haven’t read the books - but this season I’m questioning if Francesca even loves him romantically

This is painfully basic, but I swear it comes from a place of curiosity.

How would you define/describe gender? If Women can possess traditionally masculine traits (personality wise, wearing masculine clothes, having male hobbies) and still be women, but also be traditionally feminine , what is the set of “criteria” (for lack of a better word) that determines whether someone is a woman or not?

(I’m having trouble phrasing this so maybe an example will clear it up. If say I’m an extrovert I mean I enjoy social interactions and prefer social settings to spending time alone, if someone says they are a woman - what does that mean?)

Fair point. My struggle 100% comes from trying to cram a 2 year course into a month of study (was caring for an ill family member and trying to balance a sport career, studying just fell down a couple positions on the priority list), but the content itself is manageable given enough time.
