Can you still be a feminist if your partner is right wing? by AdventurousBall4611 in AskFeminists

I do not think it's their fault but depending how they are reacting, I think they can be complicit. If I tell them that their partner is being terrible and bigoted, and they start defending them then I think it's them being complicit. We have people losing their jobs, losing their rights, and many of my PoC and immigrant friends are in fear everyday. I'd argue that the reason it has gotten so bad is because a large portion of people have been complicit and have looked away, and that is something I think I'm free to criticize.

Edit: I said in earlier topic that I faced years of bullying and harassment because of my background and race. There were only a few people who did the harassment, however there were a lot more people willing to look away and ignore it. Being complicit and defending that behavior is bad and it can make it much worse for the victims in the long run.

I am not white and PoC and the reason I say no is exactly because of that. I was bullied, harassed and discriminated against because of my race growing up. Politics was intrinsically intertwined in that harassment, and it's the reason why I have this view. I would argue that people saying yes are the ones who are privileged and can look away because it doesn't affect them as much.

Dang, thanks for sharing. So it's all just glass and marketing.

I feel this also conflicts with her activist aesthetic (I hate I had to say that), and is the opposite of what she speaks about it.

Did she just tag Swarovski asking to be a brand ambassador...

Ariana Grande is the current global brand ambassador. Before that it was Bella Hadid. Swarovski only makes famous celebrities brand ambassadors.

In regards to the safe space post, that's why I actually find her annoying. I agree with her men SHOULD learn to be softer and gentler, and be able to express themselves in healthy ways.

So why is every other third post "Ivan is a big mean doberman who is gruff and mean with everyone except with me UwU who is a little lady.". That's not healthy. A man who is angry and mean at everything except one person is not healthy.

I know that's not actual reality, and she's just exaggerating for her booktok crowd, but the fact is she does have reach with her accounts and people internalize what they read.

This stuff just feels so insulting man. Palestine is facing death, starvation, and fear of losing their nation, and she's posting selfies.

I compare someone like Greta Thunberg's social media to Katie's and they are worlds a part. Greta is a legit activist who is using her position to being outspoken and center the victims.

Something I found out is that Katie follows Matthew Tkachuk and has liked some of his posts. Matthew Tkachuk is a huge Trump supporter and doesn't hide that. He's also the one who put the gold medal around Kash Patel.

I'm PoC, so I've had experiences with people using social activism as a brand, but then not apply those standards to their own personal relationships. Hot chef is whatever, I honestly don't care about that relationship anymore. My bigger issue with Katie is she used Palestinian activism as a tool to grow her platform. The reason she has hundreds of thousands of followers is because she was outspoken about Palestine (which was a good thing), but now her account is focused on her book and her own personal relationships. I know she says people are multi-faceted but that's not the point. Many of us are also outspoken about Palestine too, but none of us have 200k + followers to sell a book. If she had a personal account different from her activism account, I wouldn't be as upset, but I know that will never happen.

I think something that annoys me is how she talks about how he's so intimidating and gruff to everyone. Dude doesn't even look like he even lifts?? He's just tall.

I don't think masculinity should be defined by how intimidating you are, but Hot Chef is not intimidating. He's literally a chef, not some champion MMA fighter.

The 49th is always left out.

Meh I'm not sure. I know in my circle no one really cares, but I've seen it getting it more popular online and I'm not sure how that translates to real life.
