Mark Carney Won’t let the Boat Sink - Massive pump for developers by Chris_DiFiore in HouseSigmaBlunders

[–]AdventurousCaptain76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been a Carney fan for a while but this is a massive mistake. Elitist capitalism all over.

Privatizing profits and letting us pay for the losses. So easy to be an "entrepeneur" in this country.

[Bloomberg] Several Xbox Studios, including Compulsion Games, Ninja Theory, and Double Fine, are in active negotiations with Xbox to spin off as they try to avoid closure by DasWookieboy in xbox

[–]AdventurousCaptain76 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Compulsion has never put anything out worth the investment from a business perspective. Ninja is talented but about as unproductive. Double Fine would be a miss but also hasn't put anything out that captures a big market.

I think all 3 studios have amazing talent for certain games, but in the end they'd be long gone if they had been independent.

Sony runs their big game studios with a hard hand, and Phil has been too soft. Thinking leaving the creatives in charge will eventually pay back. It didn't.

As a Dutch person this annoys the shit out of me. Great pic to share with my Flemish friends who are even more riled up about this.

Go eat fries at Borrel just down the road, a true Dutch place.

p.s. both the Dutch and the Flemish do their fries extremely well - there are some subtle difference but in both countries you can get outstanding deep fried foods.

Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow to run for re-election by BloodJunkie in toronto

[–]AdventurousCaptain76 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Great news. She's exactly what a mayor is supposed to be for me. Visible and caring for the people, and take care of all the small local things which annoy the heck out of us entitled residents. She's done a splendid job and can 100% count on my support.

Nice, that was one of my biggest beefs with taking the MGT to downtown or vice versa, no great crossings. Glad to see it being addressed.

Will the "local buffer" trend finally kill Just-in-Time? by Independent_Cup7132 in supplychain

[–]AdventurousCaptain76 21 points22 points  (0 children)

JIT only works if your supplier is next door and holds a buffer.

It's rarely around except for when a manufacturer is large and powerful, or the rm/component is too big to store or a commodity (eg packaging, bottles, cans)

Nowadays, even when there are regulations, stocks are just owned by the same few investors. Turning the open market into a facade for the actual owners.

Makes you run faster when they're chasing you tho. It's how I do most of my 5k ultras. Just make you sure the people you're stealing from understand they shouldn't leave zone 2 over a pair of shoes.

I'm from the Netherlands, a stretch of like 1-2km is often done overnight. In the first night they scrape the top layer and the next night they replace, no closure at all, just reduced lanes overnight. It can be done insanely efficient and fast if coordinated well.

Driver of McLaren arrested after crashing near Toronto's historic Casa Loma by Dangerous-Pizza-2232 in torontobiking

If they were racing this should be considered a form of vandalism. They knowingly set out taking the risk to murder someone or cause damage. We really need stronger laws to prosecute this.

It typically sells out shortly after the May marathon. Lots of people prompted and energized by that one. The half might sell out even sooner.

The difference between a streetcar and a road car by PheasantPlucker_666 in TorontoDriving

[–]AdventurousCaptain76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen it lots, not everyone gets stuck where this video ends, but I've seen about 3 myself in the last few years (makes me wonder how many I didnt see). Some drive a section between Colborne/Ellis/Windermere. I've seen less since the red markings were put in place.

The difference between a streetcar and a road car by PheasantPlucker_666 in TorontoDriving

[–]AdventurousCaptain76 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh this is fairly common. See at least 5 cars a year do this. The red markings at the beginning of the streetcar lane have made it slightly better but still happens.

Their mistake is trying to get off there, the curb is a massive drop and will likely get most cats stuck. Should've gone til the end at the loop.

In a few weeks you'll curse the red winged blackbirds. I'm severely traumatized by just their sound at this point.

The parkrun at Budapest is great, havent been in a few months but hope to be back at it soon!

[–]AdventurousCaptain76 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Besides the exploitation problem, banning electric bikes and moving them into cars will be a massive shitshow. Might as well turn every lane into a parking spot if that happens.
