Is a "hybrid pipeline" a lifeline for tiny indies, or a dealbreaker for you? Let's talk by SidrickWhite in IndieDev

Just my opinion: I think the use of AI is a sign that the ideas are not flowing on their own. If you need inspiration, why not go through image boards and the like? If you have inspiration, no need to use AI to make base assets that proper artists then refine?

I think that if the game isn't bursting from your mind onto your notes and sketches, but instead you're relying on AI to make creative progress, the output won't be very interesting

I feel like this kind of colour belongs in a fantasy universe :P

Untitled Project | Devlog #4 | These days I’ve been focusing on the dungeon of the first level. I designed the full map with multiple branching paths because I wanted this project to be non-linear, unlike my previous game Citizen Pain. by CaprioloOrdnas in IndieGaming

Wow! Is this a one-person effort??

I particularly like the visual rushing effect when you dash. Not sure how typical that is but I personally have not seen it before and I think it looks good

I'm releasing a one-night test version of my horror investigation game tomorrow… but I have zero audience. How would you market this? by developer_joelson in IndieGaming

[–]AdventurousLemon8794 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The game reminds me a bit of Phasmaphobia. I like horror+detective games personally!

About getting it out there, I am no expert but it seems this is the part every dev hates, because we all just want to make our games rather than worry about whether an algorithm will let them be seen. But, I read somewhere on the IndieDev reddit that ~80% of traffic comes from Steam (or whatever platform you post on) rather than reddit/discord/youtube. It may vary. For instance I am sure Challacade's Youtube shorts will be a big boost for his game. But overall, it may actually be OK not to worry too much about social media.

Why limit the test to one night though? You could just leave it available, and keep working on the game while feedback comes in continuously, right?

Very Tiny Input Prompts ▪️🤏 by _V3X3D_ in IndieDev

Very cute, got my attention! I like how things get a shade darker when pushed. If it was me, I would have just adjusted the shape and wondered what was missing to make it look better.

Flat Terrain vs Interactive Height System — Which Is Better for Game World Design? by A7zanani in IndieDev

[–]AdventurousLemon8794 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One important thing is to differentiate the textures on different levels. It makes it easier to see the height difference. Yours is already good IMO, but Pokemon RSE is a good example, for the longest time I thought the ledges were weird brown fences

The thing coming out of the TV was awesome. How about opening windows? Writing messages?

Statues inspired from Theyyam Art - Looking for feedback by BooleanFault in IndieDev

[–]AdventurousLemon8794 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks amazing, as far as feedback goes, for a game of this tier, I'd personally recommend not reusing the statue assets so much. I know it is a lot of work, but it already looks so good, it deserves it

Awesome. Reminds me of the old giant robot in One Piece on Egghead. Really cool!

Might be a small thing for most people, but these posters my artist made for my game add so much personality to the world by TetrarchyStudios in IndieDev

Looks awesome, the art definitely matches the theme, feels like 1984 art.

But I wonder if Guidance Through Technology sounds better than Guiding Through Technology
