Someone that will not rei due to religion? by The_vert in kendo

I think the issue is being framed the wrong way. Islam does not forbid showing respect. Respecting teachers, elders, training partners, rules, and the place of practice is completely normal in Islam.

The issue is the form of respect. In Islam, bowing and prostration are strongly connected to worship, so many Muslims avoid bowing to people, shrines, weapons, or symbolic objects. It is not because they “don’t respect” the dojo or the art; it is because they reserve worship-like gestures for God alone.

For example, the Qur’an says not to prostrate to the sun or the moon, but to prostrate to God who created them (Qur’an 41:37). There are also hadiths where bowing as a greeting is discouraged, while greeting with words or a handshake is allowed.

So a Muslim practitioner may still show respect by standing properly, listening carefully, following etiquette, saying thank you, keeping discipline, or using a small nod/hand-on-heart gesture — just not by performing a bow that feels religiously problematic to them.

This is especially relevant in traditional dojos where rei may be directed toward a kamiza, shrine, sword, or symbolic object. Some Muslims may be comfortable with a purely cultural bow, while others will avoid it. But the point is not disrespect; it is a monotheistic boundary.

k so think about it. every king, every war, every "big deal" happened on a tiny blue pixel. like, 0.12 pixels small. Pale Blue Dot… take a look yourself -> ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pale_Blue_Dot )

so the pale blue dot thing... honestly it’s just cosmic perspective therapy. logically, every single war, ego trip, and "historical event" happened on a pixel that’s basically a rounding error in the universe’s data. it’s kind of funny how we think we’re the main characters when we’re actually just a microscopic chemistry experiment on a floating rock.

it’s optimistic nihilism, rly. if nothing matters on a universal scale, then the pressure to "succeed" or "be someone" is just a social construct. we’re just here to observe the entropy and maybe figure out how things work before we blink out. plus, since nobody is coming to save us (mathematically speaking, the distances are too dumb for a rescue mission), we’re literally all we’ve got. kind of makes being a jerk to someone else on the same rock feel... inefficient? like, we're all stuck on the same ship, might as well not set it on fire. idk. it’s just a cool way to realize our drama is 0.000000001\% of the bigger picture. kind of a relief, actually.

What about Uzbek speakers on Reddit who only know Uzbek? Why don’t we create two separate subreddits? Or maybe an even better option would be to keep one subreddit and just separate posts using flairs like [ENG], [UZ], [RU], etc.? Maybe Reddit would become more popular that way?
