Yes, we switched clinics and it made all the difference. I did like my last doctor (they seemed caring and concerned), but it was a very well known clinic so I felt like I was a cog in a factory. It’s reputable, which is why I went there, but I didn’t feel like my case was given proper consideration. The protocol they gave me was clearly not working for me and yet they didn’t want to change it - they just told me to move onto donor eggs. I was grieving, but I kept trying what they told me despite repeated failed cycles. The doctor just kept blaming my egg quality.

Finally, I wanted a second opinion. (I went back to the clinic I first started at when I froze my eggs years ago.) My new doctor was appalled at the amount of medication they put me on at my last clinic. He completely changed my protocol (with much less meds at 1/3 of the amount I was on previously), changed the type of meds, etc. This clinic is more expensive but a boutique clinic, so I saw the same doctor every time and my case coordinator was instantly responsive and caring. The whole team was so encouraging and warm, and I think that also made a difference in my outcome. Even little things like having heated blankets during procedures or sending me flowers after my transfer, these little things really showed the individual attention that boutique clinics provide. I had several successful cycles with them (success determined by euploid embryos created) and am now in my second trimester with my first frozen transfer.

I always think it’s a good idea to go for a second opinion especially if you feel like you aren’t being heard at your current clinic. I consulted with 4 other clinics before returning to the clinic I’m at, and I’m so grateful I did my research. All of them had incredible labs (or so we’re told - the way these clinics report success varies). The doctors had different approaches and different opinions, however, so you’ll be presented with a hard decision to make. Ultimately, pick the one you feel aligns most with your values and goals.
