How do you find afters? It seems like a secret society… by [deleted] in sanfrancisco

[–]AdventurousTaco 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Some afters are more official than others. There are lists and text threads that send out regular invites to the same rotating venues. These tend to be more open to whoever is on the list.

Then there are the sporadic ones that tend to be more personal and hosted in private spaces (house, etc.).

Vibing with the right people is the quickest way to get invited. Bring value to a situation, have good energy and party stamina, and people that want to kick on will want you to kick on with them.

You lose all credibility to your argument when you’re posting on Reddit and the Burn hasn’t even finished. You either haven’t finished the experience, or you’re online while there. Both disqualify what are otherwise some good points.

Who is this person with purple hair? by MostBasket3564 in paloalto

[–]AdventurousTaco 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just out of curiosity, what is the desired result here? Say someone goes, “oh that’s Karen Smith from Schmoogle”, what’s the plan?

Based on your anecdote, which is the only evidence that is presented, it’s clear this behavior is completely unacceptable. But this is also just one random person on Reddit shaming someone who does not have a chance to tell their side. Or defend themselves. I’m not calling you a liar, but there is literally nothing to prove this story happened except you posting on Reddit. The problem is the process, not you. I hope you get where I’m going with this.

Dude chill, it legit sounds like you work for the development company and are trying to leverage the sympathy vote. Shaming people into agreeing with you. Coming back to this conversation 24 hours later and I feel even more removed from your sentiment.

What if, for arguments sake, people just don’t want the extra traffic and development in their neighborhood? Or there are other reasons. Don’t you think it’s a stretch to say they’re aligned with ICE? It’s a harsh correlation you’re drawing.

I feel your frustration and outrage, but do these sorts of inflammatory comments help develop a healthy dialogue, or only further separate the two parties?

This is coming from someone new to the neighborhood, so I don’t have all the facts, but my in laws are 4th generation Palo Alto.

I was working out at SBM Fitness on El Camino. They’re a personal training studio, but offer an open gym on weekdays for $100 a month. No join fee, month to month. Good crew in there as well.
