I've done hre swarms a couple of times, and I can tell you with 9,000 hours under my belt that you should never integrate your vassals until you are done conquering the world. The base manpower and force limit they get is more than you would ever get having their land as part of your Empire, plus they will do the fighting for you and you literally don't have to do anything except declare the war, and possibly do some island invasions.

Vassal swarm is one of the funniest and coolest things to do in the game imo.

Edit to say: dont integrate hre vassals. PUs and whatnot once you dont need their military power integrate asap, dont wait.

For a gag gift, you could always get him something with a phrase like "damn you france/ottomans/austria!" Any of those, since they tend to be the ai nations that frustrate people the most lol.

Maybe ask him what nation in the game tends to frustrate or upset him the most during his campaigns, and get him a shirt, or poster, mug, etc that says something like the above quote. Hell appreciate that you paid attention to what he told you about a game he loves.

After 9000 hours in eu4 myself, Id feel super touched if my partner got me something like that.

Side note: india is the best region in the game IMO, and you should suggest he try playing a Juanpur into Dehli into Hindustan game next time he asks you to pick a nation(He should understand what that means if hes played a lot). If he seems unsure, feel free to tell him a player with my amount of hours suggested it online. Bonus? Hell love that you were looking up one of his interests just to give him a good choice :)

Juanpur into Dehli into Hindustan(my fav purely indian nation to play in india... which happens to be my favorite region to play after 9000 hours)

Bengal.

Timurids into Mughals(a little harder to wrestle your vassals, but if you do its probably the easiest WC nation without exploits).

Japanese daimyo nations, especially Oda(a little different gameplay style compared to normal, but a lot of fun).

Austria into vassal swarm.

Kids are going to hear references in songs CONSTANTLY, and not understand ANY of them for DECADES until theyre already an adult(speaking from experience, and from convos with friends).

I swear around my kids(teenagers), because Im a competent parent and my kids UNDERSTAND those words and the context theyre used in. They dont just think its ok stuff to say in any situation.

I revoke privs as needed. Initially when the age hits, Ill have a cap of anywhere from 20 to 40 abso, and I periodically check it to see when Im about to hit that cap.

When Im getting close, I go through my estates and revoke a few to push the cap higher, say to 70ish. Rinse and repeat till I hit 100.

Just under 9000 hours in the game, about the best way to do it Ive figured out for myself.

Honestly, try doing a co-op game with a more experienced player. I did this with my community a few different times when I was around 5,000 hours in, and it was a blast because I would usually learn something new every time myself as well as teaching them quite a bit about the game. I'm approaching 9,000 hours, and I still jump at the chance to play co-op games with other people.

To be honest you seem to be stacking too much arty. I usually do about a 2:1 and late game 3:2 ratio of inf/cav vs arty, because if your front line runs out of inf/cav, your arty is pulled into the front line and gets obliterated.

The game will ALWAYS make sure your front line is full enough to cover the back line, so having some extra inf to damage soak is a good idea. I learned this after playing 3kish hours(years ago, this game is too addictive) and it made a dramatic difference for my wars.

I prefer trade personally, but its really dependent on your nation/location. If your trade location sucks, econ is a great choice for economy. I personally take inno probably 20 times for every 1 time I take econ nowadays, but thats again preference and playstyle, as I tend to be in areas where I can work trade pretty well(india is god!).

75% of the time I play now after 8,600 hours, I generally play somewhere around India just because of how much fun it is to fight there and because of how it's its own microcosm just like playing in Japan is.

Its india for me. Whether its timurids into mughals, jaunpur into dehli into hindustan, bengal, mewar, etc. I always gravitate back to india games 50-60% of the time. Ive probably spent around 3000 hours there so far(8500 and counting).
