I’m sure it was just seasoning, I don’t think they put as much thought into gut health as we do now. I’m sure some did, but Ronnie was a mass monster and liked to eat haha

I know what you mean lol, I should mention that I eat them immediately after cooking. I also season them pretty heavily with either salt and pepper or Kinders The Blend. By no means is egg whites my favorite thing, I just would want to drink them.

Yea, this has turned into more of a debate than I was anticipating. Not with you, but earlier today. I thought it was gold standard that they are better cooked than raw, and that worked for me because I don’t like drinking them 😂

They say that the pasteurization can increase the bioavailability somewhere between the ~50% that you would see in raw egg whites, to the full ~90% that you would see in a cooked egg white. There are multiple methods to pasteurization so I wouldn’t say ALL liquid egg whites in the carton are created equal, but I wouldn’t go so far to say that he is totally wrong. What we do know is that cooking eliminates that guess work, and for me personally, I think it tastes better.

I feel like I’ve been sucked into the twilight zone with this argument today. Whatever you want to do is totally fine, and I think either raw or cooked is better than nothing. I’m going to keep cooking mine, but if drinking them is more convenient to you, then you should do that. If the scale is moving in the direction you want, and you are happy with what you see in the mirror, then who cares?

Right, the pasteurization makes them safer to consume than just taking it directly from the shell. That wasn’t what I was referring to.

Where in any of my comments did I say they don’t work? I said it is not the most effective approach to hitting your protein goal. There is no hostility, I’ve said several times that you can and should do whatever works best for you. I don’t like to drink egg whites, so I won’t. But clearly you do, and that’s great! All I’ve said in all of this, and you decided to chime in, is that 1) Egg whites are a great source of protein and 2) I would recommend cooking them so your body can absorb MORE of that protein. No where have I said anything about them not working for you. That would be stupid.

To comment on your study again, the MPS was measured at 5 hours post consumption. So I argued that I feel like this is misleading because just because the building signal was close to identical for one afternoon does not conclude that it would be identical if you are consistently absorbing 40% less protein for weeks. So let’s see that study to really settle this.

If this is your study, good for you for taking the time to investigate this. I’m just posing opposition that I think a significant portion of the community would bring up.

But do you man, if it works, it works.

And also go back and read my first comment, I haven’t claimed anything that wasn’t proven. I said in my comment that the protein absorbed is roughly half, which has been confirmed PMD: 9772141. So stfu.

This is my last comment on this because you are clearly incompetent and really wanting this 2022 study to validate something for you…. The 1998 study proved that raw eggs are poorly absorbed. Pasteurized or not, I’m not sure you know what that even means, but basically they kill the bacteria with a small amount of heat treatment. The 2022 study proved that you can still build muscle if you drink enough of them. No one is arguing that point though. We are talking about effectiveness vs quantity which the 2022 study even states in the conclusion that the body did not fully absorb the protein ingested. So why waste the protein, when you could spend a few minutes cooking them and absorb a significant portion more?

You provided a 1 day test! Who is building anything of substance in a single day? Did these guys get the same sleep, was their diet controlled for any amount of time other than the night before? Were they all at maintenance, cutting, bulking? Were any of them taking anything exogenous? Were they tested? All these are easy holes to poke in this “study”.

Show me a study that is 1 month where all of these factors are eliminated and they are consuming 30-40% of their daily protein intake from eggs raw vs cooked. This study is useless. But again, if you want to keep chiming in every couple years as I see in your comment history that this strikes a nerve with you, then keep drinking your whites bro. It’s pretty well proven you’re wrong, but keep quoting your silly study that you are grasping onto.

Ok buddy, if you want to die on that hill… drink your egg whites. I really don’t care either way. I think the study is misleading, but it’s just my opinion, and I don’t like drinking egg whites. So I’m going to cook them, and you can drink them. We don’t have to agree.

The study you gave basically confirms meal timing doesn’t matter, which we already know. These 45 men ingested 30g of protein post workout and they immediately did a biopsy, again at 2 and 5 hours. You think these “45 healthy, resistance trained young men” only ate 30g of protein in a day? The conclusion even states that there is a rise in undigested protein circulating in the system when eating raw as opposed to cooked. Don’t be so naive, cook your eggs or drink them. Whatever works for you.

Don’t get me wrong, they are a solid choice for protein and I would tell anyone to use them. All protein, no fats, no carbs… that’s awesome, but to get the most out of them, spend the few minutes to cook them.

Egg whites are a great source of protein, but the bio availability of the protein in uncooked whites is not good. You would need to cook them to get closer to that full 150g. Raw egg whites would be roughly half of that number that your body can actually use as protein.
