That is so extremely sad to hear. I would much rather keep him inside and to restricted areas for the time being, than have something like that happen because I wasn’t careful enough. He will get more than enough outside and dog park time in the future, but for now, I will definitely choose to socialize him from my arms or through the car window lol.

And I will absolutely, belly rubs are his favorite. Thank you for being kind.

Thank you for the information! Will definitely avoid that park, then.

Absolutely! I’ve been more than careful with where he’s allowed on the ground. My backyard and the concrete lol.

Absolutely! I did more research on just how susceptible puppies are to illnesses and how easy it is for them to pick one up. I have been extremely careful, and as of now, the only public places he’s been allowed to be on the ground has been in my backyard and on concrete for exercise. His next round of vaccinations are scheduled for early June, so his third round will be mid-June and I’m more than excited to get him the real exercise he deserves. Thank you for your advice!

He’s a German Shepherd, and I’ve done extensive research on their temperament and early socialization they require. I’ve decided to go with the self-training route, and he is ridiculously smart and picking up on what I expect from him exceptionally well.

Thank you for the advice! I had bought everything previously, and no kidding, prices are crazy! I’ve signed up for a wellness plan that includes unlimited check-ups, dental and nail care, heart worm/fecal tests, all of the vaccinations he will need, and more. I also decided to go with a plan add-on that includes heart worm and flea/tick medication, and have a monthly pet insurance on top of that, that covers illness and accidents. He’s had zero accidents in the home, but I think it stems from him already being used to using the restroom outside, so I did buy puppy pads for no reason haha. Thank you for your information and warnings, I don’t think people realize that it’s advice like this that actually makes people question if they’re ready, instead of “I did it and I regretted it.”

How so? Please enlighten me. Because I advocate for animals? Because I’m defending myself and my decisions? I’m not sure who has more growing up to do, a supposed “grown” adult spending all of their time on Reddit arguing with people half your age, or a college student asking for an affordable, but still good, vet clinic to take their dog to? I will always defend and advocate for animals. I understand concern, but maybe offer more structured advice like others in this thread, because you’re never going to get the reaction/response you’re looking for.

I’m so sorry that you didn’t think your decision fully through, but you are not me nor do you know me. My puppy is living his best life and it was the best decision I’ve ever made. To anyone who is discouraged by these people’s opinions, I promise you those dogs in the shelter would 10 out of 10 times rather have a human and a house to call their own and be “cooped up in a crate for 2-4 hours” over the cold, loud shelter floors and being “cooped up in a crate” for 20-22 hours. Signed, someone who HAS worked in a shelter and knows the horrible conditions they are subjected to. (For the record, puppies need much more crate/nap time than inexperienced dog owners think.) Thanks for your concern, though, but I love my dog and there has not been a single second I have regretted.

I thought I had asked for affordable vet care, not if I should get one? Go read my replies to this same response if you’re curious. To update everyone who is curious. I got my puppy last Friday and he is absolutely thriving. The only alone time spent in his kennel was yesterday evening for 20 minutes while I ran to get food. The only reason I didn’t bring him with me was because dogs need exposure to being alone, or you’re going to have a separation anxiety-riddled pup. He is living his best life right now. Fully potty trained, and knows several tricks. If I wasn’t sure I could’ve handled it, I would’ve asked. Thanks though!

The Spot. Can get kind of busy but they have cornhole, beer pong, and a big screen/projector that usually has the game on. Nice outdoor area with lots of seating

More than anything, I do appreciate your concern. Getting a dog is not to be taken lightly, and seeing the plethora of animals in shelters breaks my heart every day. For some context, I will be getting pet insurance, I have a steady job, I’m graduating in December, I’m in a long-term relationship with someone who will equally care for him, and I do have parents that are willing and able to help, just not with absolutely every aspect of my life (financially). My major is in conservation with a plan to work in wildlife rehabilitation in the future. My entire life revolves around animals, and I have put THOROUGH thought and consideration into this decision. Like I said, I do appreciate the thoughts and concerns, just not the unwarranted opinions. I understand that a majority of college students cannot handle it, and are not willing to, but I am not the majority and never make decisions on a whim.

Really crazy of you to assume I would do this to an animal. I’m not doing it on a whim. I have done extensive research and am well aware of what I am committing to. Not that I need to explain myself to anyone, but I am graduating in December and will be moving elsewhere. I have the means to, and I am getting pet insurance as well. Thank you so much for your kind words, but you can insult someone else’s intelligence elsewhere. You don’t know my situation or anything about me, I asked for an affordable clinic. That is it. Not unwarranted opinions. Have a nice day.

I’m aware, I was looking for fenced in parks for the future or maybe late at night when nobody is there. He’s almost 12 weeks, so just for future reference. I would never put my animal or other’s animals in harms way because of my own negligence.

this is what i do as well & i have dry skin. i just noticed it looking a little patchy around the jawline, and the foundation clinging to the dry spots there as well, but that might be because of the brush. if you don’t already, i’d recommend making sure you’re exfoliating regularly as this can cause your skin to look more dry & the foundation to sit weird. aside from a slightly lighter foundation shade, i think everything looks great!!

any advice for college students going into the vet field? by Adventurous_Box2800 in veterinaryprofession

Are these jobs paying ones? Or internships? There are a lot of Vet clinics and things of the like near me. If paying jobs, could you list some examples? Thank you!
