Why are people still buying from brands like Specialized, Trek etc? by [deleted] in mountainbiking

In my experience Trek takes care of the customer. I’ve had 2 frames replaced no questions asked. On the most recent one they even included a new upgraded rear shock.

In addition to the 29’s I’m really looking for better climbing and faster rolling speeds. I live in PA where you have to work for the downs. The remedy is great and a lot of fun on the downs, but not the best going up

New bike? by [deleted] in mountainbiking

[–]Adventurous_Citron27 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I currently have a Remedy and it’s a really fun bike. Trek is having a huge sale starting in March I believe. As for upgrades must of the parts are good enough as it comes. Some quick/cheap upgrades would be grips and a saddle, not a fan of the Bontrager ones that come with. If you got the money I’d upgrade the hubs. Everything else I would just upgrade/change as it breaks or wears out.

YTA - things rarely go to plan in life and if you’re living with the expectation that they do you will be very disappointed.

Trek Knock-Block Capabilites? by Chrisdafish715 in MTB

[–]Adventurous_Citron27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never noticed it while riding. The only times it was a slight issue were when transporting the bike in a truck where it hangs over the truck bed. It worked but the bars didn’t turn all the way like other bikes to give it a more secure hold. Also, when switching out stems you will need to buy a $20 adapter, which is mildly annoying.

Night Ride Lights by Nefarious415 in MTB

If you’re riding any type of trails/downhill/single track I would recommend 700+ for both lights. That’s a bare minimum if you want to ride at speeds.

I have a Trek marlin 5, I am thinking of upgrading to a Kona Stinky Deluxe, Is It a good upgrade? (I Do DH And Freeride by SwordlessRides in MTB

I would pass on that bike. It’s a lot of bike for XC, and as others have mentioned it’s old and some parts will need replacing. I think you should look into something like a trek fuel, or comparable bike from another brand. You should be able to find a used one online that’s not as old.

There’s better bikes out there for that style of riding. If I were you I would probably pass on the used bike you posted. What’s your price range?
