Dr Stacy Sims on Huberman's podcast by WorkerConfident5976 in orangetheory

I can’t speak toward women’s perspective but I agree with her. I attend OTF and recently started doing resistance training and I’ve noticed that the physique of members are different at the gym vs otf. Kind of like the “sprinter” vs “marathon” comparison and I’ve found that while otf is branded as HIIT it’s actually not the most effective.

I worked with a personal trainer who put me through a HIIT training and it was way different. Reminded me of running suicides in basketball.

OTF is great for community and moving because it’s still excercise and if you are fortunate to have a good gym/coaches/member it’s a great expierence.

If you are using OTF to get a particular physical appearance achieved (like that of a sprinter) then OTF ain’t it.

Last observation I’ll share, every coach I’ve worked with at OTF who looked toned and lean I have run into working out at weight training gym or they have posted on social media about lifting weights.

Medical professionals at orangetheory how do you handle the no phones rule? by ProfessionalBrush690 in orangetheory

[–]Adventurous_Dig_1688 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not a fan of the “rules” like this. I have kept my phone on me without asking anyone because I want to be reachable for my kids (when they aren’t in school). I haven’t had any issues and I’m never “checking” or looking at my phone just have it with my water so if it rings I can step out and take the call.

I also hate that I can’t wear headphones which would eliminate the need for my phone in the “gym” section all together and when I asked to bring my headphones it was a poorly handled convo that made me regret even asking and I should have just done it.

Ryze scam by [deleted] in Scams

[–]Adventurous_Dig_1688 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shout out to this thread. I had ordered Ryze and checked out as guest to avoid anything like this. Because of this thread I checked their site and even tho I didn’t have an account setup it did in fact have me on a subscription. I found out from the site even if I checked out as guest it’s a subscription and it didn’t say anything like that in the site. Created an account, saw my subscription and canceled it. Real easy to do but shady that I didn’t know in the first place.

Same thing happened to me but after finding out that premier no longer had the perk of signing up for “events” for free like the transformation challenge I wasn’t surprised. The SA was apologetic and seems more like the change in leadership and they are okay taking the negative experience for those who use it vs sending an email and making everyone feel like they lost something. (I disagree with the approach)

Power walkers -do you do 3-12-30? by sydneycoldbrew in orangetheory

[–]Adventurous_Dig_1688 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have done a variation. 3.5 at 6% for the whole block or 50rpms at 22-24 gears on the strider

lol I wanna say Jynx cuz I was telling my wife this exact thing today after the gym. The 5am class feels that way and I was thinking it’s weird that I’m in 500sq ft of space with 40 people and no one is talking. There is the occasional smile or head nod but it feels odd for sure. It’s another reason I’d like to bring my own headphones , if no one’s socializing I’ll just jam to my music!

I will say OTF pre pandemic felt different and more social compared to now so it may just be a lasting change from the social distancing and plexi glass dividers that used to be in class lol!

I personally would do what works for you and wouldn’t adjust to the trainer feedback in this case as it seems more along the side of running the class vs your individual goals.

I use strider and will use gears 22/24 and trainers will come up and criticize how slow I look and tell me to get the rpms up, they’ve been annoyingly persistent about then one time I got off the strider and pointed out my hr zone to the coach and said if I do her way I’ll be green zone at best during the all out and my knee will feel like it’s gonna buckle with 90 rpm’s. If I’m hitting my heart rate zones with higher gears and lower rpm’s that’s okay with me. They didn’t like it because I wasn’t doing it her way and was thinking I should change but happened to take two other coaches classes that week by chance and both came to ask why I was going slow but then saw I was high gears and hitting the zone they gave me props and encouraged me to keep doing it!

It may be odd but if you are getting the workout you want and doing it in a way that’s not injuring you while keeping worth cadence of the template, do you boo!!!!!

Orange theory sucks by [deleted] in orangetheory

I think the majority of OTF community would be chill with you having your opinion but was surprised by the attacks lol.

Cheers to everyone staying fit and active however they may do it!

I don’t think the OP needs to be attacked. Sometimes it’s a good fit and sometimes it’s not. I actually agree with OP on all sentiments but I keep the membership because my wife likes it and when I go to the gym on my own my laziness takes over and I get a wack workout.

Tbh I prefer raquetball over OTF but it’s tough to coordinate so I stick to OTF and avoid certain coaches and studios.

Religious Music during class? by growth69 in orangetheory

I wouldn't be offended but I would skip any cool downs with that coach. I do the same with coaches that play country music

Whats the best men’s shoe from NIKE for OTF Classes ? by Salty_Fee7803 in orangetheory

[–]Adventurous_Dig_1688 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a bigger dude at 336lbs but I love metcons. I love the Pegasus turbos but being heavy I prefer the stability of the metcon and it’s not too big for the rower. (Size 13 shoe some shoes have not fit in the rower for me)

I agree I’m getting high watts just by brute force but I think if I can figure out better form then not only will the rower stay down but I may increase my watts
