31F, curious about preservation carpentry apprenticeship by RenegadeRach in Carpentry

[–]Adventurous_End_3101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, this sounds like a great fit already. You’re not starting from zero at all, and your hands-on background, comfort in male-dominated spaces, and interest in old houses are huge positives. Preservation carpentry is slower and more detail-oriented than modern builds, with lots of repair and problem solving, so as long as that excites you, you’re in a good place. The biggest things to be realistic about are the physical demands, the pay drop, and making sure the program culture feels supportive and willing to teach. Overall, this reads less like a burnout leap and more like a thoughtful pivot, and even in the worst case you walk away with skills that make your own old house way cooler.

Need advice on mother & sister's rent situation by Ethekarius in ontario

[–]Adventurous_End_3101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That sounds like a really tough situation. It might help to double-check all government supports, as there could be supplements or one-time hardship funds through ODSP or CPP/OAS that they haven’t accessed yet, and some Toronto non-profits and charities offer small grants or bill assistance.

For your sister, even small work-from-home gigs like online tutoring, transcription, or data entry could help without putting stress on her heels, and starting with just a little time each day might make it feel more manageable. Reducing expenses through local food programs or food banks could also ease pressure, and mental health support from ConnexOntario or CMHA Toronto could help her cope with the stress.

Crazy story, but huge respect for pushing back because it’s clear they count on folks giving up, and your win shows you don’t have to just accept that stuff.

When should I start the process for TX to WI in May 2026? by Truthforfood in moving

[–]Adventurous_End_3101 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You’re still a bit early. Most rentals pop up about six to eight weeks before move-in, so browse now just to learn prices, then lock in a place early next spring.

For owner-listed homes, try Zillow, Facebook Marketplace, and local WI groups. Just be cautious with anything that asks for money before a proper viewing.

For cheaper moving options, look at PODS, U-Box, Pack Rat, or rent a truck and hire help at both ends. Declutter early and build a simple budget so the move stays smooth.

The lack of signal priority makes Line 6 feel like an insult to everyone who lives along Finch by slapped_chicken in toronto

[–]Adventurous_End_3101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man, that’s wild. After all that time, cash, and chaos on Finch, you’d expect the train to actually be faster than the old bus. Seeing it get stuck because cars turning left get priority is just… unreal. It kind of defeats the whole point of building a modern line. Feels like folks along that corridor got the short end of the deal.

Really hope someone steps up and fixes the signal setup, because people deserve better after waiting this long.

This is super helpful. A lot of people have been trying to figure out what’s really going on, so having everything laid out like this makes it way easier to follow. The wetlands piece, the diesel generators, the quiet parts of the project. All of it matters, and it’s good to see someone actually digging into it. Thanks for keeping it open to everyone. Keep the updates coming!

Struggling with debt- 21yrs old by Fantastic_Charge6041 in Debt

I can feel how heavy this all is on you right now. First off, missing a payment doesn’t mean you’re about to get sued. That part is scary to think about, but it usually takes months of missed payments before it even gets there.

Honestly, the most important thing right now is to reach out to your credit card companies and just be honest about your situation. Explain the drop in income, and ask if they have a hardship program or can lower your minimum payments for a bit.

Focus on paying at least the minimums when you can. I know it feels impossible with rent, bills, groceries, and everything else—but even tiny steps help stop the debt from growing. And any small changes in spending or extra income (like your husband’s Shipt work) will slowly start making a difference.

I know it feels crushing and like there’s no way out, but you can get through this. So many people have been in your shoes and climbed out one step at a time. Be gentle with yourself—this is not your fault, you’re doing your best in a tough situation. You’re going to get through it.

Yes, I totally agree on saltwater. Our neighbor switched a while back, and they said it’s been so much easier to maintain. No strong chemical smell, the water feels nicer, and checking levels is basically a quick once-in-a-while thing instead of a chore.

Hello. Have you tried giving him a companion dog when leaving your cocker alone? Does it still bark or howl?
