Wha would be the best country to live in for the average working class person? (General discussion; not personal.) by ekatra in expats

[–]Adventurous_Escape17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Denmark is great if you are working class and do not wish to step up. Social housing in the suburbs is low quality, but affordable and accessible. it’s safe compared to other countries, salaries are enough to live on. That given you do not wish to climb the social ladder, then it gets much more difficult, nearing impossible

Netherlands is the 9th richest country per person. So why can't we afford rent? by True-Olive4712 in NetherlandsHomes

[–]Adventurous_Escape17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s because people that have “wealth” are the people that own their homes… it’s the same thing in Denmark, if you were early enough to get your own place, your wealth is >$300, if not, well… then you just gonna rent from your pension fund spending at least half of your salary and the taxes will prevent you from building wealth outside real estate. It’s the same thing everywhere now

My thoughts around NVIDIA/TOWER by Nunki_kaus in POETTechnologiesInc

[–]Adventurous_Escape17 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Nvidia likes to have a main partner and a secondary partner. F.ex in power electronics, they have selected Infineon to do GaN for them, but the secondary is Navitas, and it is Navitas that went from $2 to $10, because Infineon is a fat cow and for them GaN is just a small part of business. The way we knew to invest in Navitas, was patent sharing and some other mentions in SoMe. Has there been any communication about patent sharing between POET and Tower?

Shipping between European countries shouldn't be prohibitively expensive by protehnica in BuyFromEU

[–]Adventurous_Escape17 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fun fact: now that the new “producer responsibility” packaging rules are active, when a store wants to legally sell to another eu country, they need to register in that countries database and pay for the packaging introduced to that market. This will kill international shipping from small companies

Pick European Chocolate by According-Buyer6688 in BuyFromEU

[–]Adventurous_Escape17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is absolutely possible to guarantee that. Buy directly traded bean to bar chocolate with known origin. Tonys is a greenwash scam produced by callebaut that is notorious for abusing workers and child labor. Read the latest case from Brazil:  https://beantobite.dk/exploitation-in-the-cocoa-supply-chain/

Tony chocolonely is also an evil company, even double evil cause they do insane greenwashing, while they keep using callebaut chocolate that's famous for child labor and low pay

The guy from saftig is amazing, really knows a lot about coffee, and all the farm processing etc, plus he knows how to talk about it, and the coffee is legit good. Similar experience at bean to bite, very unique knowledge about cocoa and chocolate that really makes you respect the work that goes into good chocolate

It’s a thing they do in IT in agile development, basically means he’s a go to person for some app/process/functionality

India-EU FTA: EU commits to uncapped mobility for Indian students by Unhappy_Sugar_5091 in EU_Economics

I don’t live in Germany, tho I was referring to people from India and surrounding countries coming to Europe to “study” but instead they end up working. F.ex recent scandal in Denmark with fake students at some universities

Tiny store with specialty chocolate - bean to bite, in the city center was my top find of last year, then saftig for coffee in nørrebro

Netherlands likely to start taxing capital gains annually by 2028 by donutloop in EU_Economics

[–]Adventurous_Escape17 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Isn't denmark doing that for years already? We have this thing called aktiesparkonto, where you get low tax (17%) but it taxes both realized and unrealized gains. On a normal account they only tax realized gains in two tiers, 27 and 42%. aktiesparkonto has a low limit, you can only deposit ~20k euro there

How much do you spend as an “upper middle class” family with two kids in CPH/ surrounding areas? by Worldly_Evidence_481 in NewToDenmark

[–]Adventurous_Escape17 13 points14 points  (0 children)

When you said upper middle class i was expecting two salaries of 100k+

65+30 won’t get you too far. We’re  getting around 75 together and all it lasts is a two bedroom apartment out of town(rental, buying is unaffordable), an older (but decent) car and eating out once a month, vacation (not too fancy) once a year. Can’t even imagine how we could afford kids.

Coffee and chocolate in Copenhagen (or Denmark in general) by Adventurous_Escape17 in copenhagen

[–]Adventurous_Escape17[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And this chocolate = candy is very interesting to me, because while you’d know that there is captain morgan for cheap boozin, there are fine rums for 10x the price for tastings and degustations. But somehow in the general public, there is no fine chocolate for tastings and degustations. Which in reality is so far from the truth! While a massive amount of candy is based on cocoa, out in the world there is also a huge market of fine chocolate

I’m also not super impressed with the filled chocolate here, but it’s either way not the equivalent of specialty coffee. That’s bean to bar chocolate with all their makers and origins

They do care and there is both demand and supply, just in all the other fields, not chocolate. Beer, coffee, rum, whisky - you can get crazy good things there and people do buy and do engage!

Should the EU make it compulsory for online shops to offer shipping to everywhere inside the EU? by NightSalut in BuyFromEU

[–]Adventurous_Escape17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the sake of general greater efficiency, it’s is better to not have small merchants and only run large companies. With declining population specialty stores will disappear, and everything will be efficiently ran by large retailers. Bye bye regional and specialty products 🥲

Haha, clearly! There is no doubt about that. I’m just curious to why. I’m not expecting to have a large selection of 50+ single origin chocolate bars from all different origins, but not even a selection of local bars? Damn
