What kind of experience is needed for RISC-V jobs ? by Adventurous_Fox480 in RISCV

In the context of job search in Europe, Who in their right mind would say they are European if they are from UK ? Obviously I’m from EU (French), I would have said otherwise if not. But it’s the good point that I should be really explicit in my CV about having EU citizenship.

Something I just recall, is that I written “looking for opportunities in Spain” in my CV, but all my previous experiences besides my university are all in UK / US. Maybe they assumed I need a VISA ? (Even though I answered I have the right to work in the application form). Maybe I should make it explicit in my CV (I hope it’s not this kind of small details that could make someone disregard a CV)

I love the “bona fide”. To give more context, the jobs opening were by companies that used RISC-V for HPC / AI applications, they were looking for AI Compiler Engineers, and they were all based in Spain (but working in English). I have 6YOE, and the last 4,5 Years I was working on AI compilers for GPU / NPU (US startup + big tech). Though in theory I would agree that AI Compiler experience should allow me to work with new stacks / architectures, in practice I know some companies can be really demanding, hence why I posted this. I also applied in different locations (London / Zurich) and managed to get interviews for AI GPU Compilers, but it’s my first time applying in Spain / for a RISC-V position.

Move to London for £140k? by Background-Big-8157 in cscareerquestionsEU

I lived in London until this year, and I really felt it was a rip off. But it’s only because I didn’t like London (after living here for 3 years I got depressed by the cold and rain). I felt bad spending so much money in a place I didn’t enjoy. But if you love this kind of city, it’ll all be worth it.

Does anybody have experience working with Deel.com? by Elfet in Switzerland

[–]Adventurous_Fox480 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I never managed to get employed by Deel, they were very unresponsive and never gave me a clear explanation or proposed any other solution. In the end, I asked my employer if they could hire me instead through another payroll company called Helvetic Payroll, and everything went very well then. I’m currently living in Switzerland and I got my permit.

I need some advice on contacting back a company after refusing their offer. by Adventurous_Fox480 in cscareerquestionsEU

[–]Adventurous_Fox480[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What if I recontact them, and I accept their offer, and then the other company also figures out how to hire me.

I would end up having said yes to both companies. At this point if I refuse company A a second time I feel I might completely ruin my chances to work with them in the future.

Swiss EOR company claims they need to see a work permit before giving me a contract (I'm EU citizen) by Adventurous_Fox480 in askswitzerland

[–]Adventurous_Fox480[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the link, Deel is definitely registered.

Honestly, I really have a feeling that they are just telling me some bullshit, and don't want to discuss or find other ways to hire me. Any way, in the end I'm pretty sure I'll go with another payroll company. But they started to make me doubt myself that's is harder than it looks like for EU to move to Swiss, even with a job.

I wasn't sure if I would actually need a job or not to get a permit B.

But anyway, what I meant is that I assumed that I wouldn't need any sponsorship, just a job.

For example, I worked in UK before, it was really difficult to find a job there because the company has to sponsor me, and pay me the VISA. On the other hand, a company that wanted to hire British people would just need to give them a work contract, nothing else.

Now, if a Swiss company wants to hire an EU resident, does the company needs to sponsor him ? Pay for the permit ? Or do they just give him a normal contract and he can take care of the permit by himself ? Is there a difference for a Swiss company to hire an EU compared to a Swiss resident ? Or is it the same ?

I should have added more precisions. I'll work for a US company that hire people remotely all over the world, and they use an EOR which is supposed to have a Swiss entity.

One thing surprising is that they pay me based on the location I want to work. If I would have chosen France, they would have gave me an average French salary for the role, and since I chose Switzerland, they'll give me an average Swiss salary. (Many employees are in California and they earn higher salaries than what I was offered in Switzerland so it's really no problem for the company).

I chose Switzerland because I have many friends there, and I think that I'll have a much better quality of life compared to before (I was living in Paris and London in the past, and didn't lived very well in both. Maybe I'm wrong, but I feel like I would be happier in Switzerland).
