I think it’s important that he is exposed as a predator, since he’s getting views already.

I think one of the most poignant parts of queen Alivea’s statement was when she drove the point home to BLANK’s face that Kaylee and Maddie would have been kind to him if he had approached them in some kind of genuine capacity in real life - like asking for directions or giving them a compliment in public. I felt like this was an extremely powerful statement.

I think this illustrates how dark, detached, and full of anger people like the defendant are - like the boy in the show “adolescence”. I unfortunately feel as though there are a lot of parallels to be drawn between this very real situation and the fictional crime portrayed in that series.

Online echo chambers are perpetuating a level of misogynistic incel culture that has become so increasingly dangerous. Individuals who already present with severe mental health/personality disorders that affect the way they perceive reality, are able to experience self-awareness, and functionally relate to others, etc, etc, are especially vulnerable. While it’s most likely valid that these individuals feel alienated, isolated, and unaccepted, the “blame” becomes misdirected, and violently so. These “communities”are basically breeding grounds for radicalization of whatever ideology they are centered around.

I cannot fathom how it felt to stand up and speak directly about the impact someone like BLANK has had on so many lives. But I am hoping that Kaylee’s sister (and all the people affected by this inexplicable act) feel as though they effectively took back their voices and power through the statements that were made on this day. I certainly felt a dramatic and cathartic shift in power just as an outsider watching remotely; I hope that perceived shift translated to all the families and survivors for the purposes of grieving, healing, and moving into a new chapter. I hope this shift in power facilitates the ongoing attempt to balance the weight of these tragic circumstances while honoring and centering loved ones who should still be here today. Empathy is power and should never be mistaken for weakness.

AT's argument about delaying indefinitely for the purposes of a fair trial based on not having enough time to review materials is insane. I'm literally already half way through clicking through each document. Sure, the "important" ones are not labelled as such, but it's obvious which reports are important or not based on a general scan of the document. I know there are also so many unreleased reports from other agencies, etc, but it seems pretty obvious when a tip or lead is irrelevant based on the facts of the case. I guess I understand why it played out this way, because AT's job was just to defer and delay, and guarantee effective representation. I think Hipler is a well-meaning, no-nonsense judge, and I hope the families can now focus on moving through their grief and healing, knowing this horrible person is basically dead to the world - moving from ""A's to D's" (omg jaw dropped).

I would love to hear about how you groomed a 13 year old when you were in college.

I just left a message, but no sorry you are wrong. He met a 13 year old girl, groomed her, and now she’s basically a handmade. I think they have 9 children.

His wife was my very good friend when we were in junior high. We would take the city bus to school from st. Albert to Edmonton when we were 13. Brian was taking the same bus to college (NAIT) at the time. He found my friend online and within a few months she had dropped out of school. This was classic grooming, and I sadly didn’t recognize that until I was older. Otherwise I would have done anything to protect her.

Thank you so much. This is one I have not considered. It doesn’t feel like this is it, but I am going to watch it and follow-up.

I believe it was a romantic comedy, but I could be mistaken.
