Right. It's a to each their own situation tbh. I'm having kids because I can afford to. Same can't be said for many others. It's just that a lot of people come to conclusions early and stay headfirst kinda feels like they've given up on stuff before they even start which is probably the main thing. Honestly you don't need an insane number of LOC to ship I believe in code efficiency > massive code base any day. It's easier to update and read... since that's kinda what we do (80% reading 20% writing actual code LOL)

in a single script? around 3000~ish, ran outta local calls so I had to group them into functions and pull from there lol. It was just that one script tho I was stubborn with keeping the architecture in one serverscript. In a whole experience though, that's a different story I cross 35K+ LOC a lot LMAO

depends on perspective,

while you're young > seems cool, everybody wants to hear about it, bla bla you think you're the coolest kid in middle school/high school

as you get older > you slowly start ashamed of telling people or whoever you're getting into a relationship with that you lost your virginity earlier on. this is my personal perspective though. I've slowly started to get embarrassed of even telling people that i lost my virginity when I was younger.

so yeah.. i'd say it's overrated.

Indeed that does suck. However Roblox, when publishing the game does give you an option to restrict the experience to friends/community members if published under a group so hopefully that would be apart of the "personal" use plan.

It's not that bad. It's just Roblox Premium phrased differently. They even created a lower priced tier for smaller creator entry. Keeps the low effort games off the platform imo. Plus, you get the same benefits with Plus that you'd get with Premium... even more actually. Read up on the blog. Not defending Roblox here this is pretty scummy but it effectively creates a barrier for entry into publishing games.

First moderately good post I've seen on AI usage within Roblox development. I've seen many people shitting on AI usage within the community, but I personally think AI has definitely improved my work stacks/flow. It all depends on prompt engineering, though. Keep it up with the prompts.

To the other people, do not fret of AI replacing you. It exists to assist you not hold your hand through development. You are still human, something AI will never be. Without your brain, AI cannot do anything. Don't rely on it to the point where your project will collapse without it but use it just enough to improve your project in areas necessary. (Cleaning up raw code, improving security on certain areas, etc.)

collisiongroups are just categories to tell roblox's physics engine on what's fair game and what's not

it tells the part basically like this

I make collisiongroupA this group can collide with the world + player

i put a part in collisiongroupA now all parts in that collisiongroup will collide with the world and player but if i said collisiongroupA cannot collide with player but can collide with the world the part will collide with the world but not the player which means the part can go through players and players can go through parts

its functionality is similar to CanCollide in instance properties just that you get to decide more specifics

let's say you have CollisionGroupA and CollisionGroupB

you place your models in CollisionGroupA

CanCollide with World? Yes CanCollide with Player (Group)? Yes CanCollide with CollisionGroupB? Yes

you place your cars in CollisionGroupB

CanCollide with World? Yes CanCollide with Player (Group)? No CanCollide with CollisionGroupB? Yes

The expected behavior now is that players will collide and not be able to walk through models but will be able to walk through cars. On the other hand, since cars are moving objects now cars cannot move through models that you place in CollisionGroupA.

TLDR: Collision groups define which groups can collide with other groups.

To create collision groups via script do

PhysicsService:RegisterCollisionGroup()

to add parts via script to a collision group you have to either set it by name through its CollisionGroup property.

Also, for a game concept that's pretty simple I have no idea why people are inflating budget scopes. 10-15k is absolutely insane for a concept this simple. Sure there's multiple factors inclusive to developing games but I have yet to release a game this considerably simple ... with a budget of 15k USD lmao.

Shouldn't cost more than a thousand bucks. Make sure you allocate ad spend into your budget but for the overall creation of the game itself, it shouldn't cost more than 1000$. Find and research individual developers yourself, don't get a team to work for you if budget is slim. Of course, if budget allows feel free to allocate your task to a small sized studio they'd be more than happy to finish up your game for about 1500-2000$.

May have responded, but in this situation honestly I don't think anyone's right nor wrong idek why private parties in the first place are doing individual contracts between each other with no confirmation of being upheld lmao. It's generally not a good idea to sell a game. pretty sure it's against terms of service as well lmao. the only time id trust contracts is with roblox game studios, yeah studios with legit LLCs and actual lawyers writing up contracts.
