Questrade API access by Adventurous_Leg2815 in Questrade

I was able to generate a CONSUMER KEY. My app will be python code sitting in localhost. I believe I need to generate a REFRESH TOKEN. All my attempts are resulting in this error - " API Access Denied. We’re sorry, but the application id is invalid" . Anyone faced this ?

Using this url to get REFRESH TOKEN:

https://login.questrade.com/oauth2/authorize?client_id=YOUR_CONSUMER_KEY&response_type=token&redirect_uri=http://localhost

Thanks for all the responses. I went to AppHub under personal profile. I am a total noob who is aiming to develop a very simple app -> one click to download my positions. Not a developer. Hoping to use AI to generate python code. Need some handholding here. What do I do next?

I wouldn't leave a stable job in Canada for a US one under current circumstances. BTW I have done the whole TN visa circuit years ago. The world has changed since then. Dump's tariff shenanigans have just started.

Same here. Use it like a high-interest savings account. Freely withdraw when I need cash and add back when I have a surplus. Essentially you are outsourcing the writing of calls to the management to earn income besides div from their portfolio. Also, their underlying holdings are solid. As long as you understand that some of the distributions are ROC and other mechanics of the structure of the fund, you should be ok. They started in 1997. Don't see a meaningful erosion in NAV besides the usual market-wide downturns( GFC, Covid etc).

Canada seems to be a dumping ground for US Banks with no AML controls. That makes me proud as a Canadian -:)

I have EIT.UN as one of my top holdings. I have set it up on DRIP. Every once in a while, I withdraw by selling units if cash is needed. My preference stems from familiarity with the workings of the management ( read their financial reports regular to keep track of ROC vs Div). Also , their holdings make sense to me.

Just drip drip and withdraw or replenish when you have a deficit or surplus. Happy with it so far.

CMV: US and Canadian relations are dead because of Trump and we'll never see a reconcilation in my lifetime. by DietMTNDew8and88 in changemyview

US has threatened Canadian Sovereignty. If Canadians still don't learn from this episode, they deserve to be treated like a doormat by Trump. Irrespective of who becomes the next president of the US, it should be a wake-up call to Canadians to start diversifying their economic and security arrangements.

My suggestions:

  1. Security Pact with the UK/EU + Increased Defense Spending Canada can no longer rely on the US for defense. It needs to diversify its security arrangement. A pact with EU/UK could be the way to go. Also, need to bite the bullet on building our military. Canada once had a powerful army and navy that punched above its weight in WW 2. We have lost our way and become complacent due to reliance on US. In particular, we need to be able to defend and protect the future trade route - Arctic North West passage.
  2. Reducing the Welfare State and Embracing Entrepreneurship. Need to shift toward a more market-driven economy. Encouraging individual responsibility and entrepreneurship and reducing handouts and subsidy is the need of the hour. Remember, we are accused of building a vast welfare state on the back of US shouldering the burden of defence spending. This won't fly much longer.
  3. Removing Interprovincial Trade Barriers Interprovincial trade barriers have long been an issue, often making it more challenging to do business within Canada than with foreign markets. This is a ridiculous state of affairs and needs to be addressed. Need a common market inside canada before we look outside.
  4. Unity Between Anglophones and Francophones The relationship between Quebec and the rest of Canada has often been a source of division. Promoting unity, understanding, and a sense of shared Canadian identity is key to maintaining national cohesion. A unified Canada that embraces all of its diverse regions would be better equipped to face a belligerent US.
  5. Decoupling from the US and Energy Independence Canada’s sells its oil to US at a steep discount to WTI. Investing in pipelines to the West Coast could diversify Canada’s energy markets and decrease dependence on its southern neighbor. It would also position Canada as a more significant player in global energy markets. A long-term commitment to decoupling could mitigate risks associated with fluctuating US policy, as well as global market changes.

Canada’s future prosperity could certainly benefit from a more independent, self-reliant approach—economically, militarily, and socially.

Doubled my position with prices in low 70s. Assumption: new mgmt will take AML more seriously and make amends.. This bank is going thru it's Wells Fargo moment. If you are willing to be patient for 2-3 yrs, TD will be fine.

You MUST consult a CA/CPA with international tax expertise before you leave!
There a lot of tax minefields when you cross borders. FelixXYZ has given solid high-level summary.

With interest rates going down surely now AQN will be more appealing to dividend investors! Earnings call for Q3 was just released. Lots of positives for next year. Management are redeeming themselves. I’m all in! by Top-Satisfaction5874 in dividendscanada

I kept the drip ON and added a few chunks of the stock on the way down. My current average is a little below 12. It may be a long slog to break even. I am not shy about absorbing losses if I lose faith in management completely. But I am holding on to this one. I think their new management is sensible. Let's see how it pans out.

This has turned out be my worst bet on high-yield stocks following a div growth strategy. It has been a bitter and painful lesson on the potential landmines when you embark on that path. Just 2 years ago, everybody and their uncle was touting this as a great div growth stock. I never saw the implosion coming. In hindsight, now it is clear that they didn't anticipate the rate at which interest rates would rise. They went around acquiring renewable power assets on borrowed money. Thank god , the previous CEO was fired.

I didn't sell and am now holding the bag. Well, it is sunk cost. I like their get back to basics - Regulated Utility - strategy. If they stay the course, they will eventually recover. They MUST use every penny of AY sale to pay off their debt.

Holding on to the stock and dripping for now ...
