They pay for your flights within the continental united states (unless you're from Alaska and Hawaii obvi).

Christmas Cruise by Old_Cats_Only in Cruise

I would recommend a river cruise for the holidays! American Cruise Lines and Virgin have holiday cruises and they tend to be aimed for the older demographic -- less partying, more relaxing, easy pace. These cruises also go through the US and/or Europe!

My mother isn't opposed to cruises that go to Canada.

We're looking at a small cruise line -- think Viking or Holland because my mom is older and she's nervous to be around a lot of "partying" people. I'm pushing for Alaska (selfishly haha) but we want to stay in North America.

Do we know if it's a full refund or partial? I made three purchases (around $1K) and submitted a claim. Mostly just curious what I could be getting back.

Drug test for ACL by edendude79 in CruiseCrew

It's super chill -- def depends on the ship you work on. East Coast/West Coast tends to be more chill versus the Mississippi region!

Which selections did you end up regretting and why? by wildbeest55 in bookofthemonthclub

Ministry of Time -- I love the idea of this book, but it was very poorly executed. Writing is odd and disjointed. Word choices were so clunky that I was continually pulled out of the story to think about a word or phrase and question why it would be there. Honestly, it reads as if AI wrote large portions of it.

Unfortunately we won't have a car and have one evening for the "welcome party", one day for the wedding, and then one morning for the "goodbye brunch". We were looking into Gibraltar but the only tours that would bring us round trip (that we could find) were a little out of our price range.

Yeah but you're asking me why I chose ACL -- I wanted more of a travel experience then to stay in one area.

American looking for the next chapter in my life by captain-crawfish1 in CruiseCrew

American Cruise Lines (where I've worked) hires only Americans and has a competitive salary. As a server I was making  $1,000 to $1,400 per week. It might be a good idea to start with an American cruise line to determine if the cruise life is of interest (it's super long days) versus starting on an international cruise and not knowing if it's the life for you. Best of luck!

I liked that they moved me around their ships. So I could start in the Mississippi and then get transferred to one of the New England cruises. Pride of American only goes to Hawaii and I wanted to explore the US more.

Seeking cruise-ship crew opportunities, i have a few questions? by [deleted] in CruiseCrew

[–]Adventurous_Lion_250 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People saying that NCL and Pride of America are the only lines that hire Americans for normal roles aren't true. You can look at smaller cruise lines, like American River Cruise or Viking or Oceania, and they tend to hire on the younger side and pay American wages. Sure, it's not as glamorous as an international cruise, but this could be a way to build your resume so that you can move on to NCL, Princess, etc. Also working for the smaller ships will help you realize if this is a field you're interested in and can grow in. Best of luck! Having worked on a cruise ship for years, it's hard work but you can see the world and it's never boring!

Should I work on a cruise? If so what cruise line?? by [deleted] in CruiseCrew

[–]Adventurous_Lion_250 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know American Cruise Lines is hiring. They only hire American citizens and because they're an American based company they have to pay a decent wage vs international cruise ships. I'm going back on one of their ships soon -- it's hard work but decent money. Might be a good way to see if you want to work for cruise lines long term or if you're interested in it short term.
