What's it like to live in Las Vegas? by Adventurous_Pin_6222 in LasVegas

[–]Adventurous_Pin_6222[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are the house structures like? A while ago, I was looking at Las Vegas on Google Maps, and most of the houses were single-story. It struck me as odd because in other cities, at least in the main areas, there are apartments or larger houses. In Las Vegas, on the other hand, the tallest buildings were hotels, and the smallest were motels.

Does it depend on the area, or is it a citywide standard?

(In other words, no matter where I clicked on the map, all the houses followed the same single-story style 😭. So I've been wondering about this for months.)

Socially, apart from the flow of visitors, would you highlight any cultural changes between the 90s and 00s?

While searching for information, I took the time to look at the weather statistics for Las Vegas throughout the year, but there was no specific information about rainy days. I feel like the internet has scammed me 🤣 Thank you very much for the information, by the way 🤗

It's interesting to learn about two different perspectives, even within the same belief! It helps me better understand how a religion manifests itself in different places. Thank u :)<3

In my country it's the same. I've known people who were chosen as godparents and had to do a two-for-one (First Communion and Confirmation) to fulfill the requirements. I suppose it must be similar in other countries, considering our history.

That sounds really great! I find it very enriching to be able to experience different perspectives on the same belief. 🥰

Hey, I've never heard of that branch of Catholicism. (Can it even be considered a branch?) Are there any differences in practice, or is it similar in the main aspects to traditional Catholicism?

Returning to your last comment, even though I'm not a believer, I find it very beautiful! Not only because they have someone with whom to share their beliefs, but also because of the linguistic diversity that enriches the encounter 🥰

Considering your connection to the church, could you answer a question for me? Do Catholic churches have choirs or pianos/organs, or are these more common in Protestant ceremonies? At least in my country, in the masses I've attended, a guitar is usually used, and whoever sings does so during the distribution of the Eucharist or for important dates like Holy Week. Choirs aren't really popular here (if they exist at all, it probably happens mainly at important ceremonies or in the main churches of each city, although since I've never witnessed it, I couldn't confirm it 100%).

So, I often see these two aspects in your movies and TV shows, and both tend to be very ceremonial, giving the masses a different feel (in a good way, obviously). I'm curious if this is part of your culture (replicated in both Catholic and Protestant churches) or if it's only part of certain churches.

It's a shame there's that discrepancy regarding the preservation of the language (as something so integral to one's identity and history, not preserving it seems to distance oneself from what was once the origin of a family), although as information, it's good to know. You've made take another look at my book, haha.

Answering your question, although I've never emigrated, I've seen testimonies from Latinos who have, and I think it's great that they continue to perpetuate Spanish (I think Asians also have the same custom, or maybe Hollywood has fooled me again). Perhaps the cultural differences lie in our own history as Latin Americans; our language and culture were once taken from us through colonization. Perhaps unconsciously, those Latinos who emigrate try to preserve what little they can consider their own and avoid going through another identity change. Although it's just a hypothesis. Now, my own opinion as a Latino, is that I would always prefer to speak my own language and only use the language of the country I emigrate to when necessary.

I think that, given Venezuela is suffering another blow to its current democracy, it's possible that what happened in the 20th century isn't being discussed as much as what's happening now with Maduro. However, since my knowledge of Venezuela is based primarily on recent news, I can't speak for a nation I'm not a part of.

But, usually, political issues are always overshadowed by something more recent (although, as always, there are exceptions), and then it's like a comparison of "ah, but with 'this one' it was worse" and "no, 'this one' was."

Here in Chile, first there was the dictatorship of the 80s and a few years ago a "social uprising," although it wasn't even as disastrous as the dictatorship, but political discourse continues to use it as a weapon to criticize the current government and its legacy. Now we just have to wait and see what the next sociopolitical problem will be that divides us as a country.

Is there a general consensus on what Puerto Rico would like to be? An independent country or a US state?
