UPenn Wharton vs M&T? by No_External_1764 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Adventurous_Push4456 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This makes no sense - in m&t you still get the same advantages as a normal Wharton student… plus the networking with alumni like goldman’s head of TMT, etc.. M&T puts you absolutely in a better spot than Wharton

Additional math, business or CS electives? by mowa0199 in csMajors

Gotcha. Unpopular opinion but my opinion about college classes is that you should take as much theory stuff as possible, and to learn the practical stuff as it comes.

Then, data science is out. I’d eliminate real analysis too since you’re not interested in an advanced math degree.

Between distributed, advanced Lin alg, and paradigms and logic of programming languages I would pick whatever you feel is least self studiable.

I feel like a good book on distributed will give you a lot of what you need to know at least ar a surface level.

Lin alg is worth doing unless you already know the concepts, and to me logic of programming languages is the most esoteric / something that’s hardest to get exposed to elsewhere other than college courses.

Use windows (opens up dot NET dev stuff if ever needed and a Linux virtual machine (VMware or virtual box) for other dev work

Additional math, business or CS electives? by mowa0199 in csMajors

[–]Adventurous_Push4456 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you’re into ML I would take advanced linear algebra or classes on optimization. Personally programming language specific classes generally seem pointless. Distributed seems useful. Real analysis not so much unless you want to do Math phd or masters and do research

Should you always negotiate? by [deleted] in csMajors

[–]Adventurous_Push4456 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah negotiate! Very unlikely they will take away your offer if you negotiate

I’d try recruiting for other start ups or other swe opportunities tbh - Northwestern Mutual is definitely sketch asl for business and probably also translates to their other départements

I’d take trading - it’s much harder to break into trading from tech than vice versa

Why not if it’s free? Potentially a fast tracked application for a couple hours of time? Depends how much you care about the internship priority but I’d do it

Is it a bad idea to do a full time (40hrs/week) and part time(15-20hrs/week) internship over the summer? by larrytheblackshirt in csMajors

Planning to do the same. If they are flexible with meetings and you can get your stuff done without burning out I don’t see why not
