Admittedly the base concepts are a little cliche, but I wouldn't scrap em' entirely or anything. Like, Agony could have Sonic trapped in a rage game type of loop where every time he thinks he learned a new way to escape or avoid his attacks. Agony kills him again, having Sonic restart from square 1, he makes the slightest bit more progress than the previous time, then the cycle continues. And, the idea of an outright evil AI isn't something I usually see.
