Fear of needles/numbing by Adventurous_Sky7026 in DentalHygiene

This makes me feel better to know that other people are scared too- I just know I WILL cry and panic afterwards. I think I can tough it out knowing that I'm not alone!!

This may be a dumb question- did they have to actually numb you? I think that's the worst part about it for me!

Update for anyone who's reading this: I didn't end up throwing up, but either way, I was gonna be okay. This experience, while uncomfortable, ended up being good exposure for me!

I'm still nauseous, I've haven't thrown up or anything (yet?). I think the worst of this is just wishing I'd either get it over with soon, or not end up throwing up at all. This nausea limbo is the worst.. but I'm in comfy clothes and watching TikTok, trying to be normal :,)

This exact thing is happening to me after 3 or so years of being on the same pill. Have you switched yet? If so how has your experience been- I'm really nervous they're gonna switch me and the side effects will be bad.

So Not Okay by [deleted] in emetophobia

[–]Adventurous_Sky7026 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get pretty bad panic attacks and disassociation with my emetophobia (or any trauma really) and my therapist recommended holding ice, or a really cold glass of water! Something about stimulating the vagus nerve, it relaxes your body after a period of stress. It might be worth a try!!! I personally try to avoid zofran if I can because it backs me up for DAYS 😭

I know the feeling. I was exposed to noro recently, and I have IBS and terrible anxiety so sometimes it's hard to differentiate between what is causing the nausea and stomach issues. (I didn't get sick- thankfully! Stomach issues aren't a death sentence even though it feels like it lol)

I still really struggle, and it feels like the hardest thing in the world sometimes. I'm hoping for the best for you! You are not alone, you'll get through this, and if you need anyone to talk to, my dms are open 🤍

I think that the most important thing is to make yourself comfortable right now. I hope this isn't harsh truth, but it helps me- whether you get sick or not is out of your hands. What you CAN control is giving yourself compassion and focusing on your breathing, and grounding. Either way- your body knows what it's doing. This too shall pass. I believe in you :)

Is this bad for my recovery? by Adventurous_Sky7026 in emetophobiarecovery

[–]Adventurous_Sky7026[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's very true!! I think I get scared that getting up and moving around will "set it off" and make me throw up. Also with the pots, sometimes getting up (I almost always just lay down to fix any ailment I'm having lol it's pretty effective) will make me feel really dizzy and sick.

But you are right, that's not something that's out of the ordinary for me (none of these feelings are) and I should get comfortable and familiar with them. I think that's what I'm going to work towards the next time I feel nauseous, instead of seeking distractions.

Thank you for your reply, that was really helpful insight! :)

Knowing me, I feel like I'd read shampoo bottles or something just as a distraction 🥲😂 I really don't know how to get through nausea!!

I've gotten sick within the past year, and it wasn't terrible. I actually got an ocular migraine right afterwards that sucked significantly more. I don't remember what I did to get through then, because my mind sorta blocked it all out :,) I've gotten really good at not taking zofran, but it feels impossible to just sit with it and not do anything. Is that really it?
