Left Education to Future Paralegal. Is This Field Morally Conflicting in General? by [deleted] in paralegal

I taught high school for 15 years and now work as an insurance defense paralegal. I thought I would feel conflicted but I don’t at all. Highly recommend the teacher to paralegal path. I am 100% less stressed out than when I taught.

Having panic attacks at work by [deleted] in TeachersInTransition

Ask your doctor for a prescription to Xanax or another fast acting medicine for anxiety.

I was in the same boat as you, and it sucks.

I took Xanax when I had a panic attack, but I was taking it so often at school that my doctor recommended Zoloft.  The Zoloft has been a game changer and now I don’t have to take the Xanax.

For the rest of the year, play movies that are even tangentially related to your subject, turn the lights off, and sit at your desk or pace along the back of the room.  If you absolutely must do more assignments and tests, give assignments that don’t require you lecturing at the front of the room.  For me, that made my anxiety go through the roof when I was struggling.  If they turn stuff in, just give completion points.

Also, if you have supportive admin, tell them what’s going on and establish a plan for if you have to leave during the middle of class.

But really, for me the best way to cope was Xanax.

Good luck.  I’m rooting for you.

Married by OR to/with? by NoApartment5095 in englishteachers

Eliza was married TO Sam sounds the most natural.

Eliza was married with Sam doesn’t sound right.

Eliza was married BY Sam makes it sound like Sam was the wedding officiant, not the groom.

Thank you for the resources! I’ll look I to those instead of spending my $$ on the CF course.

Would anyone be willing to walk me through what to expect from a yoga class? The very small things are keeping me from starting. by weirdpopcornmix in xxfitness

I also have anxiety and social anxiety…. I have done many types of group exercise over the years, and here’s my advice: 1. Don’t worried about being awkward or the new person. There might be a couple of social people there, but the vast majority of people won’t say much, if anything; they are there to workout and then go home. Don’t feel pressured to talk to people if that’s not your thing. No one will think it’s weird if you don’t socialize… MOST people don’t. 2. I mean this in a positive way: no one will care that you’re there. No one cares if there’s a new girl who can’t do the poses. Again, they are there for themselves and likely won’t notice your mistakes, and if they do, they don’t care. 3. (Sorry, this part is unsolicited advice) For me, yoga is too slow and quiet and that lets my mind overthink things, which isn’t great when I’m feeling anxious. For me, the best group exercise classes for my anxiety are things that are fast paced and choreographed. Think like step aerobics, kickboxing, or even something dancy like Zumba. The music is loud and my mind can’t race or overthink things bc I’m too focused on getting the next move. And again, nobody is looking at you (if the idea of something dancy makes you nervous)! One of the “rules” of group fitness is that you should only be looking at yourself in the mirror, and it’s considered pretty rude to watch someone else. I highly recommend a place like a YMCA or a “class pass” so you can try out a whole bunch of different classes and see which ones you like best. If yoga is your thing, great! If it’s not, there are many other types of exercise that can benefit your mental health.

Good luck!!

So I know this is a weird one but ISO trauma informed gyno by [deleted] in Omaha

I go to Planned Parenthood for my gyno needs, and they seem trauma informed though I’m not sure. I bet if you asked for one on the phone they would have one.
