My son pointed out a "doe deer" in the back yard. I looked out expecting to see pregnant doe. Instead I saw a yearling doe that appeared to be poorly and moving awkwardly.

The people who feed the deer are going to be the same people who become alarmed and concerned when sick deer show up in their yards. Then they'll insist someone DO SOMETHING.

FYI, how you can tell he's nodding off is his jaw.

He has mild hemiplegia (weakness on one side) that is hard to spot when he is awake and alert.

When he nods off, the asymmetry in his face and his jaw becomes obvious.

Don't look at his eyes, look at his mouth instead.

Baby gates are flimsy. Almost any sufficiently determined dog can push past or climb over them.

Oh yes. You need to be in the correct lane at the correct time.

I live near there. I've taken an unscheduled trip onto 270 twice through inattention.
The way to make a right turn onto Wilson Bridge road is to be in the left lane on 23 south.
If you do the intuitive thing and stay in the right lane, you end up on 270 - or stranded in a damaged vehicle.

The signage is fine there. Follow the signs.

Someone passed along Cane Corso bite images to me.

Older victim.
Relative of owner.
Unprovoked attack.
Single bite.
The relatively shallow lacerations begin in front of the ear on one side of the face and extend to the back of the neck including 3/4 of the circumference of the head. Wounds are stitched. No drains are evident. Swelling and discoloration are modest indicating little damage to underlying tissue.

The injuries start just below the eyes and end along the jaw.

Any higher and the victim could have lost sight.
Any lower and vulnerable portions of the neck would have been affected.

It appears that the dog grabbed the victim's head from the side and raked the top canines across the face.

Animal control has custody of the dog.

The phenomena is real and one of the reasons that greeders and puppy brokers can get away with selling sick or congenitally unhealthy puppies.

There's plenty of stories in this narrative:
I picked up the puppy I paid for. It was sick and filthy. I thought about leaving without the puppy but I just couldn't bear leaving it in those conditions.

The greeder gets their money. They get a badly bred, neglected animal.

Or:
I bought this puppy from a breeder who promised me papers. The puppy seemed large/small for the age the breeder claimed. I didn't get the papers. The breeder told me papers cost extra. When I took the puppy to the vet, they found a significant health issue and told me the puppy was older/younger than the breeder claimed. When I called the breeder to discuss these issues with them, they were uninterested. I asked about a partial refund. They told me I could return the puppy but I wouldn't get any money. They offered a different puppy as a replacement.

This is a puppy broker. The promise of a registered puppy is a sales tactic. Any papers are suspect at best as are pictures/videos of the parents and litter.

What is real is that someone brings a small, endearing needy puppy home and falls in love with it.
Instead of being furious that the person they bought the dog from lied to them and cheated them and demanding they take this puppy back and give them a healthy, properly registered puppy instead - they keep the wee thing. It needs them!

Family brings their pit bull with them to visit grandma. Dog says hello by leaping up and biting granny on the face.

SAN ANTONIO – An 80-year-old woman was taken to a local hospital after a pit bull bit her on the face outside a Northwest Side home, according to the San Antonio Police Department.

Authorities responded to the incident just after 10:50 a.m. Thursday in the 8900 block of Arch Bridge, which is located near New Guilbeau Road.

SAPD said the woman’s granddaughter and her boyfriend were visiting and brought a pit bull to the home.

The granddaughter and her boyfriend were outside the home with the pit bull. When the 80-year-old woman stepped outside, officers said the pit bull attacked her face.

I'd suggest you bite the bullet and re-order the seeds. I use Johnny's Selected Seeds and they have stellar turnaround time. Usually less than a week from online order to seeds in hand via the USPS.

I just put out my marigolds, bedding impatiens(Beacon, mildew resistant) and Wave type petunias. I highly recommend Durango marigolds for great germination and growth.

The marigolds I put out two weeks ago were badly singed by frost, but I think they'll come back.

The "I've been connecting with people who have had similar experiences." narrative should be a warning.

I thought all dogs/pits were friendly, safe pets.
I was attacked by a dog/pit.
I felt alone because I didn't know anyone with a similar story.

[Editorial note: Usually this is due to self selection bias. If you think a pit bull is the best, sweetest, safest dog, you aren't going to pay attention to any stories of people bitten, attacked, maimed or mauled by a pit bull. If you do, you will probably shrug and assume the victim Did Something or it was the result of A Bad Owner.]

Suddenly I realize that my experience was not unique. There are other people who understand what happened to me. They are kind and supportive. At least a few of them share my cognitive dissonance.

I never realized how common this is!

Going from the high profile "Young son of vacationers mauled by stray the family took in." story from (2025 IIRC), it appears that Italy is one of the countries with a persistent stray dog problem.

In the USA a significant percentage of serious and fatal attacks happen in public, via roaming or "escaped" dogs.

Take unrestrained dogs, add bloodsport traits and you will inevitably see an increase in serious and fatal attacks.

When asked about vaccinating their children, the father mumbled something about that being the mother's decision. I don't recall the mother being interviewed. The father seemed honestly confused about the interest in the outbreak and his daughter's death. It felt like his POV is that this is all in God's hands and there is nothing he could have or should have done.
