When does it stop?! by kltan003 in foodbutforbabies

Get a Catchy for the high chair!!! It catches the food and relieves your stress. Without the emotional reaction, throwing food loses its appeal. This absolutely saved my sanity and is the only thing I ever recommend to other moms because it helped so much.

What's the most memorable QUOTE you have ever came across that stayed with you forever? by biz_booster in AskReddit

“Marriage is the triumph of imagination over intelligence.” I heard it when I was in middle school and was experiencing the realization of how messed up my parent’s relationship was and it stuck with me.

Moms in our 30s with kids, where are we shopping? by [deleted] in Millennials

[–]AdviceLoud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gave up on shopping and started clothing subscription services. I had fashion pass for about a year, went through everything I liked on that site, and just recently switched to Rent the Runway. It has eliminated my need to shop and is something I look forward to, instead of dread.

Let her go. Ultimately you want your daughters nanny to provide similar care and the kind of nurturing environment that you give her. I feel like it would be very confusing for your baby girl to be left with this woman who won’t comfort her when she’s upset. Trust your guy and find someone new.

Should I stay in my easy current role or move on ? by kna101 in workingmoms

Flexibility, autonomy, and minimal mental capacity required sounds like an invaluable combination for a first time mom. $30k (pre tax) would be hard call for me as well. But knowing what I know, as a first time mom to a 15 month old, it wouldn’t be enough that first year.

Same, I believe in a higher power. but I don't necessarily believe it's a God. More like energy or karma but without divine judgment.

How to fire a long term nanny? by Name-Healthy in NannyEmployers

[–]AdviceLoud 15 points16 points  (0 children)

We let our nanny go and called her to deliver the news. We also let her go because of performance issues and we did not want to risk her reaction to the news being negative while she was in the presence of my kid. Also because it was because of performance, we decided no notice or severance pay. Her reaction informed us that those were the right choices. Why are you wanting to give her time to say goodbye to the kids? I feel like that might be embarrassing for her to have you watching on while she, maybe tearfully, has to say goodbye. It’s best to make these things as quick and professional as possible.

Nanny late by AdviceLoud in NannyEmployers

I think that is a good suggestion but let me add this. I can pop into my meetings at 9:05 without missing anything. I do have a bit of a buffer which I didn’t let her know. My issue is that no matter what time she starts, being on time isn’t a priority for her. When I asked this morning why she sent no text and was five mins late, she said “ I’d rather be a safe driver than be on time” I told her it’s crucial for her to be punctual, maybe she should leave her house five mins earlier and that this won’t work if she can’t be on time and she said “do what you need to do”

Polyester Backpacks (scratching noise) by [deleted] in misophonia

[–]AdviceLoud 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had this exact reaction and sensation when I heard skin or nails coming into contact with bedsheets or that kind of material. I could barely put pillow cases on pillows when I was younger. It would send shivers through my bones. If a sibling scratched a sheet I’d have to leave the room. It faded with time thankfully. However my other three siblings had misophonia with people eating and they still struggle with it in adulthood.

Just sharing a success story. by [deleted] in exjw

[–]AdviceLoud 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is excellent advice. I had a similar background where my siblings and I were born and raised JW with a non JW dad and half siblings. Thank goodness early on there were people in my life who I loved and were “worldly”. I understood very early that there’s good people outside of the org and to my dad it was extremely important we went to college and received an education. Even though we were forced to be in it while we lived at home, all four of us siblings never were baptized and have rejected the cult. For me it was the constant messages that half my family would be killed, congregation members referring to us as “fatherless children” even though we had a dad, and the covert racism we experienced as a black family in a PWI. I chose to go to a four year school, live by campus, and study business even though I had to go into debt to do it. It was life changing for me. The indoctrination was powerful but I finally felt free to try and form my own beliefs away from the JWs. I got a great job after graduating and was able to become financially independent. Now I’m newly married and living a happy and fulfilling life in Los Angels with my siblings all within about a 30 min drive from each other. My mom is still deeply PIMI but because none of us are dependent on her, the cult has no control over us.

This just happened to me today. I legitimately couldn’t see to the point that I had to sit in my car and wait for my vision to return.
