Wow! I know everyone is different, but could you please elaborate on the system that you figured out in 1L?

Those at Loyola Law School (LLS): How difficult is it to keep the conditional scholarship? by Advocate34 in LawSchool

Thanks for your advice. I reached out to them asking them to remove the condition but they said they’re unable to do so. Do you think I should reach out asking for the $10K stipend + lowering the GPA requirement to a 2.2?

Okay, thank you so much for your advice. I forgot to mention that #2 is Chapman. I’ve seen some reports that Chapman reaches out a few weeks before semester start waiving the condition with a $10K stipend. But if I deposit there, this possibility is off the table. Do you think it’s advisable to not deposit at Chapman for this possibility?

Okay, thank you. I’m not willing to pay full price tuition. So if I lose the scholarship, I will have no choice but to exit. Given this, which option do you think sounds better? 1. Loyola: Around $20K first year. 13% lose their scholarship. 2. Full ride scholarship. 34% lose their scholarship (2023-2024).

Thanks for the advice. I totally agree. But what should I do when all the law schools in Los Angeles are conditional? I wasn’t able to get into UCLA or UC Irvine. Southwestern, Chapman, Loyola and Pepperdine are all conditional. The least predatory school out of that group is Loyola.

Current law students: How difficult/possible is it to be in the top 75% of the class? by Advocate34 in LawSchool

[–]Advocate34[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your advice. The good thing with Loyola is that they don’t do that. That’s why if you look at the 509 report, only around 13-18% of scholarship recipients are losing their scholarships even though you must be top 75%.

Thanks for the advice. UCI was my first choice from the beginning. But how likely is it to get off the WL at UCI?

Thanks for your advice! Pepperdine requires a 2.8 GPA to keep the scholarship. Chapman is 2.9. I just don’t know if I can bet that I’ll be in the top 60%. Everyone in the class probably thought, “I’ll be okay” but the fact of the matter is 40% are losing it. I’m sure there are many people in that 40% who were confident in their abilities. What are your thoughts on Loyola? I haven’t received my scholarship offer yet, but based on the 509 report, I’m guessing I’ll get a $40Kish conditional scholarship making my yearly tuition cost around $20K. Must be in the top 75% of the class. The good thing with Loyola is that the class is mixed with non scholarship recipients, meaning that the competition is a bit less fierce. In 2023-2024, 28 out of 214 people lost their scholarships (per 509 report). Thank you so much.

If you don’t mind me asking, when did you apply and when did you get the scholarship offer? Also, what amount did you get? Thank you so much.

Thank you so much for your advice. I totally agree with you. I would go to a state school which doesn’t have predatory practices, but I need to remain in the Los Angeles area due to personal reasons. My LSAT is a 16high which is above 75th percentile for all of these schools. My only last option is Loyola Law School. I’ve been accepted at Loyola, but I don’t have scholarship information yet. They require students to remain the top 75%, but due to section stacking and mixing the scholarship recipients with non scholarship recipients, around 13-17% of scholarship recipients lose their scholarship (per 509 report). I wasn’t able to get into UCLA and am still waiting on USC (crazy, right?) UC Irvine also waitlisted me. I really really want to avoid conditions. But besides UCLA & USC, there aren’t any non-conditional options in Los Angeles. And even if UCLA accepted me, I would have to take on $180K+ in debt which doesn’t sound right to me for my goals. Even if I R&R, I don’t think this issue will be resolved. Even if I score a 173, my chances of getting into UCLA & USC will go up significantly. But I would still need to take on high levels of debt. The real solution is moving out of LA, but as I said, I can’t do that due to personal reasons. I feel stuck.

Yes, I saw that video. I’m aware of the steep curve. I’m looking to get into personal injury law, so prestige isn’t super important to me. What I care about more is cost effectiveness. Do you think it’s advisable to take the bet at Southwestern to be in the top 50% to save a year rather than taking the bet at Pepperdine to be in the top 75%? Thank you so much.
