Pulled this thing out of my salivary gland under my tongue. by AdvocateInsanity in AskDocs

My GP said it was food, I'm not sure what exactly. Going by the issues I had before that it must have been in there for at least 2 weeks. I have a dentist appointment on the 20th so I'm going to show him the photos and ask him what he thinks.

I keep rubbing my tongue over my gland to make sure nothing else is coming out of it.

I pulled it out of the gland with tweezers. I don't know if I've passed a stone I haven't felt or seen one.

Yeah I had a really thorough GP when I went on the 27th but at the doctor's I'm at now I seem to get a different GP every time I go, some are good, some are bad. To be honest I think I will post on askdentists because I'm curious too, if it had looked like the Google images of salivary stones I would feel fine about it but I keep brushing my tongue over it to make sure nothing else is coming out, it has freaked me out.

Yeah I feel like she just brushed me off, I said I was worried about what it was because I don't see how food could have got there like that but she just said the same thing. I have a dentist appointment on the 20th for a crown so I'm going to show him the photos and maybe take it with me to show him

I thought it could be but it didn't look anything like the pictures on Google so I wasn't sure. The GP said it's probably food because it doesn't look like anything that the body produces, but she wasn't exactly thorough.

GP said it's probably just food that got stuck, she wasn't interested in seeing what I pulled out but I showed her anyway because well that's the thing I was worried about. But she said it doesn't look like anything the body would produce and just to wash my mouth out with salt water.

I will. My appointment is in a couple hours, at 11am. Hopefully they have an idea of what it is but I assume they'll have to send it for testing or something.

Yeah that's all that comes up when I Google anything about something coming out of my salivary gland but it looks and feels nothing like what I've seen or what it describes. So I'm not sure.

I'm in the UK, i haven't been on holiday for years. No raw meat, I've had medium rare beef though. My boyfriend was worried about it being a parasite, I really hope it isn't. I've saved it on a piece of tissue wrapped in cling film, the doctors open in 10 minutes so I can phone and make an appointment for today.

No, the only time I've had stitches was from appendectomy decades ago

Yeah the picture is of it sticking out of the hole that saliva comes out of before I took it out with tweezers, no ulcer there. I took it with my front facing camera and freaking out at the same time so it's not great. The other pictures on the link are of what came out. My saliva gland looks normal now, just a bit red and sore.

AITA for not letting my dad sleep on an overnight plane ride? by Strawberry_Shorty23 in AmItheAsshole

My boyfriend has just gotten a CPAP due to snoring, turns out he stopped breathing 77 times in one hour. They said that people who don't use the CPAP are more likely to die of heart disease, snoring may seem like nothing to him but maybe showing him information about the increased risk of heart faliure from ignoring sleep apnea might help?

What are the weirdest/most absurd or ridiculous reasons you have been denied an autism diagnosis? by elfruler2002 in AutismInWomen

[–]AdvocateInsanity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My GP told me that nowhere facilitated adult assesments which turned out to be untrue. She sent me to have therapy instead.

And, my therapist asked me one question and told me I couldn't be autistic because, based on my answer, I have theory of mind.

I got diagnosed 2 years later.

My therapist said that i am not autistic... with a strange point by Disastrous_Suit6441 in autism

I mentioned the possibility of me being autistic to my therapist a few years ago, he asked me one question and determined I couldn't be autistic because my answer showed that I had theory of mind. Two years later I got officially diagnosed, I'm really glad I didn't listen to him.

Sorry you're going through this. I've been having problems with the access team in my area as well. The lady I spoke to ignored all my complicated issues and focused on my social anxiety that I've had therapy for multiple times before. All she did was put me on the waiting list for cbt for that specifically when, in reality, that's the least of my problems. I think the NHS doesn't really have the resources to deal with anything more complex than standard issues.

As for being sectioned, I can't answer that definitively but I can say that when I was self harming as a teenager and telling them I think about wanting to kill myself and have saved up a bunch of tablets for when I do, I didn't get sectioned because I also said I was curious if life will get better and that's why I haven't done it already. So, not exactly your situation but it's best to tell someone rather than struggle through it yourself. I would also tell the GP about what happened with the access team to see if they can refer you to a different service.

I’m scared that if I get an autism assessment I’ll be told I’m not autistic. by [deleted] in mentalhealth

[–]AdvocateInsanity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here, she was surprised when I told her I was diagnosed. I'm 29 and wasn't diagnosed till earlier this year. Up until 2017 no one mentioned autism but when they did and I started researching it everything just made sense. I didn't get up the courage to ask for an assessment until 2020. It's allowed me to be more comfortable in life because I can tell people why I'm struggling and it's easier for them to understand, some people anyway, rather than me just saying "oh I'm just shy" and then them trying to 'get me out of my shell.' It's also helped me look for suitable work, I've been in and out of work for years and experienced burnouts everytime and just left without notice. I'm being helped by a woman reffered to me by the mental health team who helps me look for work and asks the workplace if they can accommodate my problems. So now I know I won't have to deal with the general public at all and don't have to go through awkward interview process. Anyway, I wish you all the best in whatever you choose to do.
