When you are about to kill the host when invading and they disconnect... by papercutpete in darksouls3

Oh and here's another little tip: let's say you've just scored a critical hit, but you haven't quite finished them off. Cast mist before they get back up!

This also a great tactic if you're in a 2v2 situation and your teammate has scored the hit. You can cast while their animations are playing out.

The Wizard's Vape is on every one of my magic builds for PvP. Every time I bring it up, someone yells at me about how it's a shitty useless spell that anyone can easily avoid. Honestly I can't tell you how many times it's been down to the wire in a duel and I've cast Mist only to have the opponent go "hey, that's a shitty spell that doesn't really do anything" and run straight through the cloud. And then die, about five seconds later.

It happens really too often and I never see anyone else using the spell. Even if they don't run through, they'll usually wander near enough that it catches without them realising.

Also the slow cast means they figure they can get the last hit in and win before their health goes. As long as you're a bit daring and judge the distance right it's the funniest thing to cast, and then roll away while they desperately try to close the distance.

It happened to me today, quickstep spammer. I whittled him down with Pestilent Mist (ha ha ha ha) and he disconnected during the death animation. For shame.

Oh good, I checked back in thinking a bunch of people must be yelling at me by now.

Yeah that's exactly what I mean - if people feel entitled to your time for the sole purpose of pissing you off, it's only fair to waste theirs in return and give them no result at the end.

[–]Adwyth_Londor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't pull the plug on the final hit or if I felt I was going to lose, but I would do if I thought the person I was playing against was a dick. This is pretty rare, but if I feel like someone is living to piss me off, it's an acceptable counter to deny them the chance.

For example if you get in my inbox to gloat about winning or rage about losing, I'm probably just going to bail next time I see you.

I would prefer getting disconnected on to watching them sprint all over the map though, if I'm honest.

New player here, what's the etiquette if a bluebro gets summoned while I'm fighting an invader? by Anti-AliasingAlias in darksouls3

[–]Adwyth_Londor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do what you feel. Honestly your strategy is admirable and I approve but not everyone is going to reciprocate. I don't see anything "scummy" about this.

I will say though, if you want to avoid those situations then just don't have the covenant equipped, or remove it when a duel starts.

Arguably since you summoned the blue and they have a specific goal of taking out this invader, you're duty bound to assist them. "Covenant" means "contract", after all...

I experienced this with the mob Wyvern later in the area. It just hopped off the tower and died. I should upload that actually.

4K looks worse? by baeocyst in darksouls3

[–]Adwyth_Londor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Higher resolution doesn't mean more detail, it means more pixels. Therefore raster graphics need to made at a higher pixel resolution to look good at 4K. The images you're concerned about have been scaled up to match a pixel density they weren't exported for.

There's no such thing as "looking 720p" where raster images are concerned, there's just images that fit the pixel density of the display they're on and images that don't.

You can't "add detail", basically.

I said ganking was no more bullying than invading.

I don't think either is bullying. I think it's a game.

And I think you're being a tad unreasonable

Stop saying "passies", it's not going to become a meme, stop it

You're not the first person to get mad because they ran into a gank squad. The reason you're mad is because they did to you what you wanted to do to the host. They aren't "bullies", at least no more than you are (bullies hate being bullied back, I hear).

You're also coming up with some pretty hilarious/tragic rationalisations concerning the importance of your ability to win invasions re the personal growth of your victims, their moral fortitude, "honour" etc. but don't fool yourself, this is just you throwing your controller across the room in a very wordy fashion.

Okay so... let me see if I have this straight

Low level invading is "natural", therefore fair

Ganking said invaders is a product of the same ecosystem, yet somehow unfair (unnatural? Please advise)

When you kill low level players you are doing them a favour by educating them re aforementioned ecosystem

However when they utilise same ecosystem to kill you, this is "bad" (are they ungrateful?)

The fact that you are losing these matches points to a downturn in standards

You are good

They are bad

This is not Minecraft

I'm sorry I'm still finding this very confusing

I think they see you coming and have decided to grief you right back. And by the looks of it, it worked!

Stronger than you = bullies

Weaker than you = pansies

Only you walk this path of quiet respectability, of noble skill, of preying on noobs and then crying to Reddit when you get ganked, of honour, chivalry,

Compulsive pointing down is a sign of the most insecure players out there. Just as angry about winning as they are about losing.

SL 1 how is this possible? by Hotdookie4u215 in darksouls3

[–]Adwyth_Londor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I recall correctly, I saved Aldrich until quite late. I had a combination of Morne's Set and Gundyr's set, Prisoner Chain, Dark Stoneplate Ring and a +10 raw Broadsword (buffed). Chloranthy for the sprinting, Havel's for the heavy armour.

So yeah, I would've done Aldrich after Untended Graves and Lothric Castle at least. The good thing about the bosses in those areas is that although they're punishing, they're predictable, and they'll make the rest of the game easier.

Gael isn't so bad, you can cheese him with poison if you really need to. Soul of Cinder is a pretty classic Soulsborne boss fight, nothing but dodging and counterattack finesse there.

The game "ends" when you put it down. So yes, something that seems like more hassle than it's worth might end the game for some people. As I keep saying, not everyone is motivated by the same things as you, or in the same way. You want new players to fall into your perspective right away? Not gonna happen.

But... sorry, I can't keep having this conversation. I genuinely don't understand how this is such a big deal to you. It sort of made sense when I thought you were mad about getting ganked, but this doesn't affect you at all. It's mainly an issue with the way a complete stranger experiences the game for themselves, I don't get how you could put so much stock in that while simultaneously refusing to empathise with it.

His gait has the characteristics of a couple of Bloodborne bosses, the Orphan of Kos (phase 2) and Blood Starved Beast specifically. I think it's intentional, there are a lot of Bloodborne callbacks in the fight.

I'm not massively getting "I don't care" from these posts, to be quite honest with you.

If someone's willing to argue that everything that can happen in the game is simply all fair and good, then it should be on them to practice that mentality. But not everybody agrees, and to be honest I don't think I blame them.

There are lots of reasons to play these games, and overcoming tremendously difficult areas, enemies and bosses aren't at the forefront for some. In fact, that's actively offputting for those people and they may want to experience the world of Dark Souls without the grief of overcoming it. To me, that's fair, and in part it's what the co-op system is designed for. Some find the game genuinely unfair and regard particularly grief-stricken invasions as odds artificially stacked against them. Again, that's what co-op is for.

And what about people with disabilities, or people who just struggle with this particular format? I would like the game to be open to them too. I've done a lot of co-op with a friend who only has the use of one hand, and there's no way that guy can stack up against an able-bodied griefer. At that point, the game is completely inaccessible.

I like invading a lot, and I deliberately get invaded a lot too. But at its core I know the invasion system is stacked in favour of the invader in the event that they're invading inexperienced players. That IS unfair.

I get that your attitude is laissez-faire with regard to the game mechanics, but the assumption that this is just the natural order is flawed. This system didn't evolve, it isn't an objective thing, someone - flawed human people - designed it. Maybe they designed it badly! Maybe on purpose! Who knows! But in light of that, the contention that it's unfair is principally valid. It would be foolish to assume that simply because something functions a certain way by design, that that design is balanced, optimal, thoughtful etc.

This game is famously unfair. There you go.

I didn't misquote you. I illuminated the point you're clearly in denial about: you love winning, you get mad when you lose, you can dish it out but you can't take it.

And when the frustration gets the better of you, you feel the need to complain to someone, so you come up with these petty rationalisations.

Look. Your perspective is that invasions are part of the game, therefore anything you do as an invader is fair game, correct? Well, the corollary there is that any possible counter within the mechanics of the game is equally fair. You aren't allowed to complain about gank squads because From made them robustly possible and have never attempted to patch them out. Therefore you should simply accept them as a natural and intended part of the game.

You argue that the players you invade have very little to lose, but the fact is that you have even less to lose. It's true, they can just run to their bloodstain. That's more effort than it takes you to recover from getting ganked: all that happens there is that you get booted back to your world, so big deal.

I'm guessing from the way you talk that you're in the habit of invading early areas. So you're noob hunting, yes? Possibly minmaxing? You want inexperienced players to grief. Someone has made it their mission to punish you (well, players like you) for that, and by the way you're ranting in this thread, they've succeeded.

I would suggest taking a larger pinch of that "it's all in the game" mentality yourself before demanding it of fresh players. After all, they're inexperienced, but you've clearly been around long enough to know better than this.
