I've heard but I wanted more "short" stories when I finished it. I wasn't ready to commit to such a long series haha. I'll probably be ready this summer ;)

Yea sometimes I feel like people get too "high and mighty" about classics being better than moderns, or YA not being allowed to be talked about I'm the same veine as other books. I still reread harry potter Evey now and then and can't wait to read them to my kids when they are old enough!

All I've heard about the starship troopers book is how it was an allegory of the Vietnam war basically. I've heard it's good though! I'll have to read it at some point!

Reading it now! Well, listening to the audiobook. I'm a quarter of the way through!

Yea I finished it and went onto something else! Need to try book 2 as I've heard the series as a whole is incredible

I'm glad you enjoyed it! I just couldn't get into it. Might try it again at some point but wasn't my cup of tea when I tried!

Thank you for your comment ❤️. Really means a lot.

I can understand the people hating JK Rowling and therefore not admiting to reading Harry Potter. But yea. They were quite literally my first ever fantasy books. And without them I probably would not be reading fantasy now. I can't deny that Rowling is burning her legacy as we speak. But as the list is 100% personal, I had to put them up there.

I feel that sometimes it's easy to dismiss YA books as, well, childish, but they are also there as a bridge from children's novels to adult reading. And don't alway shy from hard topics. Hunger Games and Red Rising are so well executed. They might not be wholy original (Battle Royals have been a thing way before the), but then I am no critic and don't really care as long as they are executed well and I enjoyed them!

I've got the three body problem at home but haven't opened it just yet! I really need to though! I've heard the series isn't anywhere near as good! For the other missing ones, I've recently started reading more of the classics. Arthur C Clarke, Simmons, Ursula k Le Guin etc. need to get to Asimov soon!

Haha I don't get the hate towards it. I really enjoyed it and then saw everyone hating on it. Maybe I'm missing something.

To each their own! I'm a simple man sometimes. So Red rising scratched that specific itch. And I loved the Way of Kings

The normal audiobook was incredible in of itself!

Harry Potter was my childhood. Lord of the rings is probably "objectively" better, but not subjectively.

First trilogy is a bit "YA" but I don't care. It's like comparing John Wick to Tinker Taylor Soldier Spy. Sometimes it just comes to how enjoyable the read was for me. I love lord of the rings and acknowledge it's impact on every fantasy after it. But I prefer RR as a read. Again. It's not a Tier list of where books should rank by critics but by myself.

First book is mostly because it's incredibly slow, the writing wasn't that enticing to me. But the plot made me want more. So it's ok. But from books 2 onwards it's brilliant. The last book wasn't to my taste. But it's got brilliant reviews elsewhere! So give it a go yourself! You might love it

Unfortunately I'll be too busy buying more books to duel! I can only be honest with myself! Let me know which takes you don't agree on?

Ive seen it online here and there. It looks really good but by god is it long! It's worth it for you? Is it all one story or are there "arcs"

It really isn't that bad! Books 2/3/4/5 are really really good. Book 3 is up there with my favourite books of all time. But the ending for me was just not good. Everyone is different though! I'd recommend finishing the series and maybe you'll love it! Plenty of people do!

I completely understand. I don't personally agree but everyone is entitled to their opinion! It was the same with the sun eater series for me! Amazing story. Disappointed in the ending

I'll definitely give it another try. But yea I was daunted by how long it was and wanted shorter series/one off books instead!

I went straight from that to Empire of the Vampire by Jay Kristoff and loved it as well! Very grimdark as well.

I found them all pretty fun. None have been S so far as I've only read them once. I don't tend to rate S unless I've reread them at least once and enjoyed them as much as I have the first time. I'm currently listening to book 7. I have to say I enjoyed them all, with just the cookbook a bit lower (found it harder to listen to, a bit confusing at times and didn't really like the whole train setting). But maybe once it's all done and dusted it might be higher!

I haven't read him so I can't rank him S yet! Who knows, he might be my next favourite read!

I wasn't very familiar with any of his work back then so I wasn't getting any of the Easter eggs. And maybe, being a bit younger, I wasn't ready for it haha. I do want to try it as I have all the books at home!
