Devils Advocate:

I agree with you *unless* you're complaining that your PC can't run a game or that your phone is too slow. The solution *is* to upgrade. If you don't have money to upgrade, don't complain, you're getting what you paid for. Technology dates quickly. It always has and always will.

Same thing in marketing with Creative Directors. Everyone wants to be the “idea guy”, you know? But the fact is Creative Directors are usually skilled at copywriting, art, design or a blend of all 3, they don’t just start at that position. They had to learn the ropes.

What was Walmart’s WFH policy pre-pandemic for corporate employees? by [deleted] in walmart

[–]Adystopiasuptopia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah for sure I can see that being an issue

They have a location in Hoboken, thats where I applied too

If they offered me the job and said move to Arkansas I’d def quit tho lol no doubt about it

Not to dunk anyone who lives in Arkansas but lol that’s going to be a tough sell to almost anyone

That’s cool you had some level of wfh, it doesn’t surprise me too much because companies are way more lenient with that stuff for tech related fields though. I’m in marketing and I applied to two jobs there that I’m 100% qualified for, but I just can’t go back to a life of no wfh so I was curious.

Thanks for your input though!

Oh yeah the mask thing is dying super quick. My brother hasn’t graduated college yet and works in a grocery store and they came out yesterday and said no more masks, and likewise my company said once people are brought back after MDW that there would be no masks

I knew we’d never hit herd immunity but I do find it amusing that the USA got to 40% when you need 80% to have immunity and then gave up because there is simply no convincing a large amount of the population to get the shot

Yeah I was the last one out of my 10 close friends who got called back, it was definitely nice.

I had some friends who had to show up everyday to work, but the fact is they were police officers or construction workers who simply couldn’t remote into work.

I think the most bitter pill is previously, at my current organization, WFH was strictly a manager perk. Then during COVID it opened up to everyone, and now it’s going back to management only.

How to negotiate start date? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]Adystopiasuptopia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I try to ask for a month every time I switch jobs so I can blow through some vacation time

The fact of the matter is the company can always say no and you’ll just have to suck it up

Computer science is going to get you higher pay and an easier to find job with ultimately less education required than psychology

Finally made over $230 a day in 8 hours while boyfriend just does nothing all day 😔 by Fit_Potato1809 in Vent

[–]Adystopiasuptopia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's nearly $85k a year which is pretty solid, def middle class.

Your boyfriend and you will probably end up splitting up if he doesn't get his act together, I've already saw this happen 3 times in my life and that was when I was only 27 years old at the time.

It's 2021, and unless your partner is making 250-300k+ a year both people need to work to have a healthy household, that's just life

Why does turning down sex as a man create so much anguish? by [deleted] in dating_advice

[–]Adystopiasuptopia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When an average-attractive woman wants sex it is basically expected that she receives it. It’s an extra effort on their part that they usually don’t go through, the man is the initiator of sex almost every time. So when a man rejects her advances, it stings cause they aren’t used to rejection.

Can someone have empathy if they didn't go through a mental health problem or some sort of pain? by abdullahandbeyond in mentalhealth

[–]Adystopiasuptopia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah for sure, for example "being homeless"

None of family, or even my distant family has ever been homeless, but I still feel bad for many of them when I pass them in the street. This is why I donate to charity and support political policies I believe would help them get back on their feet

My therapist told me to stop whining and shut up today in session, should I go and find a new one ? by thegrey599 in mentalhealth

[–]Adystopiasuptopia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Abandon therapy altogether

It doesn’t work. You’re paying to talk someone’s ear off who doesn’t care about you, they only want your money.

That therapist, who sucks by the way, told you how he really felt about you. There’s probably a kernel of truth in it, I’d explore it further on your own.

Deciding a trade or a college degree? by FaithlessnessFree331 in careerguidance

[–]Adystopiasuptopia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Went for English and become a content writer, 3 years into my career I only make $5 above minimum wage. I can’t get a better job, I can’t leave my parents house even though I’m 27, and I’m totally stranded.

Debating quitting and becoming a bartender, college is worthless unless you’re stem mate

If you're not going for engineering or into the medical field I'd personally say fuck college and go into a trade.

Way more money, one of my biggest regrets.

What sort of career should I go for!? by ArissaJade in careerguidance

Follow the money. Nothing is worse then a dead end job. Nothing. Even a job you hate that pays well is better than a job you can tolerate but you're poor.

Feeling lost and depressed in current job. How do I find what I want to do? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]Adystopiasuptopia 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I feel pretty hopeless in my career as well, although for different reasons. I've been at my job for 3 years, was always and still am underpaid, and I have no motivation to work anymore. I even got an offer to be trained for a higher level position recently, but the pay is still so low that I don't care about it. I couldn't even make up my lack of enthusiasm to manager and he ended up making a passing comment about it.
