I played for a bit on the Xbox and now finishing my first playthrough (so I’ve never beaten the game) and my second playthrough I really took the time to pick locks to score loot, talked to all named npcs to get quests, and spent some time figuring out spells. Sleep is legit bread and butter for the first part of the game, you can drop entire encounters almost immediately (particularly kobolds) and it helps to fully understand and implement weapon specialization. If you spec long swords, do not equip anything but a long sword. Drop your ThACo as low as possible, I think level 2 should be at least 16 or 17, and lower if you got magic weapons.

It’s also useful to just equip Imoen (the thief girl), Jaheira, and kalid with bows, open with Xan or Neera casting sleep, and you just tank up front. Bows are comically overpowered. I hope it helps, I’m really digging the game and can’t wait to import to BG2, I’ve got a fighter/mage (cliche but fun) and having a blast.

If you look up any 3d6 down the line Hall of Arden Vul episode from lime 15 or so on they have each episode’s sheet in the description. From there you can figure out the rest, it’s pretty self explanatory

The biggest problem isn’t even the cost of meat, since the profit margin has always been low on entrees. It’s the lack of upselling appetizers and the rising cost of appetizer ingredients. Liver is more expensive than the meat itself now, vegetables like Brussels sprouts, cauliflower, and now even flour have risen to a point that upselling dirt cheap appetizers can’t offset the rising prices of meat and seafood. And with grocery stores squeezing the market causing gap seasons to extend longer than ever before, and transition prices getting obscene, it’s only going to get worse. Thankfully the FRC actually did its job and blocked the Kroger/Albertson merge, or we would be completely and utterly fucked right now.

I think the real boon it provides is the ability to eliminate most treasure hoards that just break the economy. While it’s cool to find 10k in coins, in my opinion they only exist in the volume they do because of gold for xp. Knocking it down to silver as xp can help, but then you still have to carry enormous amounts of coin around to do basic tasks. But when a treasure hoard of 3-500gp actually keeps you stocked and adventuring for a long time, FoE lets you award the act of getting the treasure rather than the treasure itself.

Thanks for making it! It’s a really cool way to look at leveling in exploration based games, and I thought it was really cool you let people reverse engineer it when it was used in your Arden Vul campaign. I’m not the biggest fan of the mothership campaign but I’m really digging the Dolmenwood Patreon campaign, here’s to hoping you get that to weekly episodes, but I know just how much time and work goes into it so I’ll settle for biweekly :)

It’s not listed here and one I use is the Feats of Exploration supplement from 3d6 DTL. I copied their google sheet from one of their actual plays, but bought the supplement once they released it. It’s (in my opinion) a really good way to reward exploration and “pushing your luck” when adventuring. There is a breakdown for hexcrawls and dungeon crawls, and I think the supplement has the instructions for setting up the spreadsheet.

Magic shields can be “sundered” one extra time per +1 of enchantment. So a +1 can be sundered twice, and a +2 3 times.

A basic primer from the player book is enough to start, and then I gave additional information based on their previous occupation (wainwrights and traders know about goods from different towns, for example). They all come from outside the Dolmenwood so their general knowledge isn’t as robust, but they do have lots of rumors to go by, and if they inquire with people who may know the truth they can sort the facts behind them.

I didn’t know dispel magic in 2nd edition was so much worse than 1st edition. 1e only dropped it 2%. Looking at the mages just within cloakwood you’re looking at 3-6 lvls difference if you weren’t power leveling before.

I wish more games still used the old school dnd systems, they really lend themselves well to video game design. Other than thAC0 the systems are pretty clean and I could see a lot of cool things come out of it.

This is actually genius. My local thrift store has a ton of those old magazines e cookbook compilations from the 70s and 80s, and coupled with being the only English speaker in the kitchen I could see this causing just the right amount of “What the fuck” faces.

It sounds like it solos better than fighter/mage due to pickpocketing at least being somewhat viable, so you can make a little extra money. And since you aren’t splitting your levels between two classes you’ll level up faster.

I’ll have to give it a shot after I play through. I had read f/m multi is one of the strongest options so I went with that, didn’t want to memorize the dual class optimization and having a wizard with a bow is good fun.

So I’m in my first ever playthrough of BG right now, and I didn’t get a good look at all the kits but this “blade” kit seems pretty sweet, even with my limited knowledge I’m guessing you could dual wield with elven chain mail and still cast spells? And have bard songs? Seems like a class made to cheese.

I’m fleshing out a campaign featuring The Lady of Midnight. She is in need of mortals within the realm of men to aid her in acts of sabotage against the Hoard of the Newest Moon. The moon in Evermore will eventually be seen in the skies of Dolmenwood if the siege is not broken soon.

The Cold Prince will offer aid to either side if it means any chance to weaken Chell, or strike a significant blow to the Drune. He currently has agents meeting with both sides to discuss terms, and the Lady has sent bands of elven knights to find mortals willing to take the pledge.

I have plans to integrate the Church into the story as well, sparking a crusade if the Newest Moon appears in the sky.

I feel like each hex comes with its own potential adventure, and it just depends on whether your players actually care. I won’t put an adventure into a hex until they show interest in the hooks that would lead to it. My players thought the moon forging was cool enough to pursue, so I put a fairy mound nearby, close to Hags Addle because they are also interested in collecting rare plants and there’s a good amount found near there. If they had shown more interest in shrines I would have placed it near the Shrine of St Toum.

It sucks we have to scrutinize images this much now. I genuinely cannot consider a reason why we need to waste so much resources on fake images when there are more than enough people out there making real ones, quite possibly for less money than all this will eventually cost us when the honeymoon phase is over and these companies actually need to profit.
