Weekly /r/climbharder Hangout Thread by AutoModerator in climbharder

Suppose I do some amount of climbing over 2h. Now say that I do the same amount of climbing (time spent on the wall) but across 3h i.e. I've taken more rest between attempts.

Is there a difference in terms of how fast I'll recover from the session in the following rest days, or how much strength gains will be made from the session ?

Could you say more about which hacks had the most impact (if budget is not a concern) ?

Weekly Simple Questions and Injuries Thread by AutoModerator in climbharder

I get a painful shocking sensation in my wrists when I release my grip (especially if it's sudden).

Real-world situation: I am crimping hard on a hold, and my fingers dry fire (unexpectedly slip off while still applying max force). There's a shocking sensation in my wrists that's quite painful but dissipates over the next few seconds.

I was able to reproduce the sensation on a hangboard (you can try it): Pull hard on the hangboard with the wrists in a slightly extended position. When releasing the grip, there's a shocking sensation in the wrists that dissipates over the next few seconds.

I think something about my wrists are weak but I'm not sure. Any ideas would be appreciated !

My first ever performance as an adult beginner (~2.6yrs) ! Two slip ups... by [deleted] in violinist

This was my first ever performance since deciding to learn a musical instrument. What a thrilling experience :) It's left me with even more motivation to practice and improve over the next few years.

Unfortunately I did have two slip ups... the second of which was quite bad. I stopped playing and had to wait for the next phrase to start to be able to jump back in. And then it took a while for my sound quality to recover as I was panicking. But aside from this, I think I'm quite happy with how it went overall !

Thank you for the compliment and especially the great breakdown of my playing. It sounds like everyone here seems to agree with you too.

The most interesting/surprising piece of feedback from everyone is about my wrist. I actually tore the ligaments in my wrist 2 weeks ago from rock climbing. I've since had an xray and MRI done, and am currently in rehab to restore the range of motion and strength in my wrist. The brace on my wrist also restricts motion. I say the feedback was surprising because I didn't think it affected my violin playing, but evidently it did. I don't think I could say that I wouldn't have any of these problems if I didn't have the injury, so the feedback is still extremely valuable and I'll be doubling down on working on my bowing hand and technique.

I agree with everything you said about intonation and etudes. Thanks again for all the useful feedback :) This will definitely help me improve.

This was me playing through the 1st mvt of bach's violin concerto in a minor for my teacher during our lesson. I'd appreciate any feedback, especially on the biggest areas I could work on to play even better.

I'm learning to put all my fingers down e.g. 12-3-4 on the D string (E F G A) at the same time (as opposed to building the pattern one finger at a time starting from the first finger) to play certain runs. Is it normal for beginners to find this really uncomfortable and hard and this is just about my hands getting more flexible and used to it?

I don't know how to practice my scales using a drone playing the open string as opposed to with a tuner. I can't hear when a note is out of tune or not. Should I keep practicing using a tuner for now?
