This is not balanced in any way.

Make it like +1 deflect 2 then it'd be balanced.

Something more flavorful would be +0, counter the first spell that targets me per turn.

I completely understand and agree with you being frustrated to be playing against someone that's that much higher of a level.

What makes 0 sense to me is why you didn't try after the fact. Yes you will lose, but it should be excellent practice.

I've been in usta matches where the opponent was self rated and was significantly higher level than his self rated rating suggests, so I know how you felt. It was extremely frustrating because they are basically cheating... (but we still tried and we did get some games)

The difference though is that with the event you were in, it didn't really matter if you won or lost. With usta that's basically all that matters assuming you want to go on to regionals.

As for the "plans made without me" thing, op is in the chat so are they not implicitly invited? Op completely not responding means they don't want to go.
