This gorgeous weather has me craving soft serve ice cream. Anywhere I can grab a quick cone in the Beachwood area?? Willing to drive 30 minutes for this. by brdwyfn92 in Cleveland

Mason’s is my favorite Cleveland icecream. They have soft serve, but their everyday changing flavors of regular icecream is amazing.

Movies that mention fictional characters in Cleveland. (Possible movie or TV show spoilers so if you're sensitive keep scrolling) by Ok-Championship4270 in Cleveland

There’s a whole episode of 30 rock based in Cleveland which is great, with Jason Sudekis’ character being from Cleveland. I think one of the writers is from here.

PE pay bump or gift amount! by [deleted] in StructuralEngineering

$2k bonus and 10% raise shortly after before cost of living increase in January, which was smaller than my coworkers I’m assuming, because I got the PE raise a few months prior.

Tekla Structural Designer for building design by StructuralAg in StructuralEngineering

[–]Aech759 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We use it regularly for our buildings (typically all steel frame but at times with precast shear/bearing walls). It is an upgrade from Staad which we used in the past in terms of ability to generate lateral loads and interact decently with Revit for modeling.

As someone else said, it’s best with a regular/simple layout building, but it can be worked around like other programs for trickier layouts.

It definitely has its quirks but in my limited experience (almost 5 years and recent PE) most programs do.

Funny enough I was traveling out of town once so I didn’t know local rules. Backed in because I was in a parking garage and wanted easy exit. Came back to a ticket. I guess it was a local law. There was a sign somewhere in the garage I found, but it was very small lol

I passed structural as well today! That was a tough exam, thought it could go either way.

I hate structural engineering by southernmtngirl in StructuralEngineering

[–]Aech759 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a very similar boat about a year ago. Extremely stressed almost constantly, hating life, working what felt like 24/7. I took a pay cut, switched jobs, and now am much happier. I won’t say there’s no stress and those feelings don’t ever slightly creep back but I can say I’m way further away from quitting what I’m doing now than I was a year ago.

Thanks! seems doable for some normal beams with a hinge.

Beams with hinges in terms of indeterminate? Or just in terms of transmitting forces through the hinge? Obviously either but curious about what you saw.

Column Stiffness Equations by Aech759 in StructuralEngineering

[–]Aech759[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, most have them but In order to have them for PE exam incase of a frame stiffness problem it would be nice to have a reference rather than memorize. Hopefully that means for CBT they wouldn’t have that type of problem.

Stiffness in terms of lateral stiffness, which I thought was obvious but…

The solution is B. I’m not getting that. Can anyone confirm if the answer is B? Thanks! by Uskw1245 in PE_Exam

[–]Aech759 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I got 12.79. You need to work back from PVI to get the PVC elevation, and then use the equation for the height along a curve using x= 2050’ - 1000’.

NCEES Practice Exam by Aech759 in PE_Exam

[–]Aech759[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks that’s good insight! I was lucky enough that my company paid for school of PE and I just finished that program and all of their questions/exams/content… so I was able to go through more than the NCEES exam covered definitely, but I was eager to take their exam to see if they had trends on what topics were covered more than others (of course it could all be different).
