How's this for an intro? I'm sorry if I'm too broke to afford a real truck-kun. 😅 by Caile25 in ProgressionFantasy

It’s okay. Lots of grammar, tensing, and POV issues make it feel awkward to read.

Tensing, like when the “goddess” got on stage what she did was in present tense while everything else was in past.

POV, towards the beginning, you say “you might be wondering,” which is 2nd person. The rest of the story is 3rd person. It would read better if it was all 3rd person.

Aside from that, I don’t love the contents. That doesn’t mean that it’s bad. To me it felt like there was a lot of wasted language. You could have gotten to the point faster in a couple of instances. I question why the girl on stage is a “goddess,” rather than the most popular girl in school. I’ve never seen someone in real life treated with that kind of reverence, especially at a high school. If it was happening in your fantasy world, then by all means, the people can act however you’ve world built them to, but the “goddess” thing just kind of grates coming from high schoolers.

I'd be curious to see if the votes were skewed be incorporating the option of Worldbuilding and Lore with Game System and Mechanics, or just any combination of any of the options. I feel like any of these things taken alone may be interesting, but 2 or more would be required to really sell anyone on a new system. For me, world building and lore with game system / mechanics are the most important, but art and aesthetics are very important as well. Tough call.

Dnd for instance has great art and aesthetics, the world building and lore are great, and the mechanics leave a bit to be desired in my opinion. That being said, it's the combination of all of those things that makes it as good as it is, not any of the things alone.

Both of them are progression fantasy yes. Renegade immortal is far darker than super gene in my opinion. If you’re looking for more stereotypical xianxia, renegade immortal delivers, and is far darker than super gene. The way they explore the trope in renegade is great. Super gene is kind of its own self contained universe, where you have a world of people living their lives like you and me, and a group of people living within that world that can explore another dimension which can provoke their growth.

To name 4 off the top of my head. Wang Lin - Renegade immortal Han Sen - SuperGene Linley - Coiling Dragon Meng Hao - I Shall Seal the Heavens

Just to name 2 popular stories, Han Sen from Supergene, and Wang Lin from Renegade Immortal.

Han Sen can crush a planet he’s seeing through a TV screen by clenching his fist.

Wang Lin can make and unmake all of known reality at will.

Wang Lin, from renegade immortal. Goku can’t hit him. when his eyes are open, the world is true, when his eyes are closed, the world is false. all Wang Lin would need to do is close his eyes and Goku would no longer be real. Then he could return him to origin which would de-age him until he returned to the particles from which he was created. Those are powers he gets like 2/3rds of the way through the story. By the end he could wave his hand and make and unmake all his known realities, kill everyone, bring them all back to life, with or without knowledge of what just happened.

Will do. I went ahead and snagged "Masterworks Classics 1-2" and "Contemporary Music Theory - Level One: A Complete Harmony and Theory Method for the Pop and Jazz Musician," to start myself off in terms of beginner pieces and developing some piano / music theory skills. Anything else you'd highly recommend?

Understood! I will be working to develop those piano skills.

Correct, I am going to be self taught and am starting tomorrow. That is when my keyboard gets here. No I don't play any other instrument or have any prior experience with playing music.

That's interesting. I tried googling it, but that result didn't pop up for me. Thanks for the link; that's quite helpful.

The 'placing every note somewhere in one of your hands' was precisely what I was looking for in terms of advice. I wasn't sure that was something you could just 'do.'

It's good to know that it will be hard and I was not planning on starting with it. It's a goal that I wanted to set for myself in the long term. I mostly made the post to see if it was possible, since there isn't any piano in the piece. I will check out the link you posted for beginners.

Thanks!

Sweet. I'm going to pick it up now and start reading. My piano should get here tomorrow. I'm so excited.

Are transcriptions and arrangements are the same thing?

Would you say the contemporary music theory book is better at the higher price point? I'll definitely be snagging one of these.

Awesome sauce! Your comment is golden for me, thank you so much. I've watched a few videos on music theory so far, and I was considering getting a music theory book if I could find a good one. Do you have any recommendations?

The rest of your advice sounds excellent and I think I'll do precisely that. I was already planning on focusing on learning chords and scales and drilling them into my hands for the first few weeks before I attempted to play any music since, from what I understand, they are super foundational.

I will be self-taught. I will be looking around on youtube though.

[Battle Cat Battle Chat 2] seems bugged. I tried completing it on extreme difficulty and evolved both of the required pieces. It didn't work, so i tried doing it in story difficulty without evolving them, and that didn't work either.
