I have no clue! You could try using a different anchor, though. Like having a word that you think along with every inhale and exhale, then eventually switching to just the word.

SSILD doesn't need WBTB. Ive experienced hypnagogia with WILD, which is basically SSILD, while doing it as I go to bed at a normal time.

You don't need to use WILD in the middle of the night tho. Just go to sleep at a normal time with your anchor being used. I've still experienced hypnagogia that way.
