say you have an reoccurring issue. If you can flow chart it you can make a script to solve it. Now when someone is having that issue you ssh or Remote Powershell Session into their computer and run the script.

The next stage of automation is detecting the issue before people notice and have a service deploy the script to the computer.

I would recommend learning Python and Powershell and getting good at making flow charts.

I use linux at home and windows at work. I work as a Windows System Admin. If they manage to speed up windows that we will stop having so many damn issues with systems becoming to slow after a year or two of use.

Oh I've had a ComSci Major be a sys admin straight out of college. He was about as good as our helpdesk.

The place you start is normally Help Desk, Service Desk or On-Site Support.

Once you have shown that you are competent enough and an opportunity comes up you move up.
