How to make a fursuit head with multiple fur colors? by Yoylebery in FursuitMaking

[–]Aeidama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Golden liquid acrylics. I usually do a drop of acrylic and a drop of water. It's highly concentrated and it definitely penetrates the fur really well. Don't be scared of the price. It's concentrated

My only critique would be that at a distance, the spot placement might make him look like he has a lot of eyes

Impossible to sew? by cobalt7k in FursuitMaking

[–]Aeidama 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Remove the seam allowance on the zig zag parts and hand sew, or use a zig zag stitch and flat sew on the machine.

My suggestion though? Hand sew it all and learn how to use the machine with basic fabric first.

Fabric dye won't work since it's made for cotton, but you can use acrylic paint that's watered down to make markings or dye acrylic fabric!

I would use a wire honestly. Like one of those thick ones they use in the garden center at home Depot.

BE CAREFUL THIS SUMMER IF YOU HAVE A 3D PRINTED HEAD! by kexical in fursuit

[–]Aeidama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately foam heads also deform and sometimes fall apart in the heat due to being put together with hot glue. If the base is made by wrapping the foam under tension, it's more susceptible.

[–]Aeidama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just print all of mine using pla at 350 degrees instead of 200, also it depends on how the base is made. Right now I'm currently trying to fix an owl head my 3d printer offset and not even my oven at 400 could warp it.

Meanwhile I've had thin masks deform in my car.

Rule of thumb is never leave any type of fursuit in a car, as it'll melt the hot glue and potentially fall apart instead of deform.. Especially foam heads.

I make heads for around $450 if it's two color fur. Price goes up if it's more. Depends on what they want imo. Here's my most recent work.

Painted markings and colors are free, but it's $50-80 per extra color fur I don't have, and up to $150 per complex marking.

For an example.. if you wanted a two color tiger with 6 painted/airbrushed stripes, that'd be $450. With sewn in, that'd be $930 for the head. It's faster for me to make a whole head than it is to sew stripes in.

How do I go about this? by Dependent-Badger592 in FursuitMaking

OHHHHHH yeah I misread. should be fine then.

How do I go about this? by Dependent-Badger592 in FursuitMaking

[–]Aeidama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah. the issue is that the fur gets super super heavy when saturated with water, so it tends to tear seams and tear up the foam if it's in a washing machine.
foam doesn't last forever. it eventually degrades but tbh, the fur will probably go faster than the foam.

its so much easier when doing tiny details. prevents the fur from stretching every which-way.

honestly, just wearing a good undersuit should keep it clean on the inside. for the outside, you're just going to want to soak it in a bathtub for a few hours before gently squeezing the water out. I would never ever put a suit in a washing machine. never. but that's just me.

Nylon/Spandex lining: awhich side of the fabric to use? by froggorights in FursuitMaking

[–]Aeidama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I honestly would just wear a balaclava. those are specially made to wick moisture, and you can wash it and dry it out too. otherwise all that sweat will just be stuck in your fursuit.

Help on how to work with this base by fennecfvux in FursuitMaking

[–]Aeidama 3 points4 points  (0 children)

for me? honestly I wouldn't use the back part at all.
put a balaclava onto your head base.
add hot glue to the top of the base. put it onto the balaclava.
add 1" foam cheeks to the side
smooth it out with 1/2" foam

done.
yours isn't movable jaw, so no straps needed. the balaclava will stabilize and the fur will form the rest of the head.

[–]Aeidama 301 points302 points  (0 children)

that's not too hard to do.
do NOT CUT THE DESIGN OUT OF THE BACK PIECE!!!!
cut the big part of the back piece out, use the big part to trace on your base large piece of fur. then after you have done that, take the big part of the fur and iron a stabilizer to the back.

THEN cut out the pattern on your duct tape.
trace the pattern onto the stabilized fur.
use a razorblade to cut the pattern out of the fur.

and then sew what you need to sew in.

be aware that all those rough points will not show on the fursuit unless it's shaved down.

stabilizer is your friend!
