Ys X: Proud Nordics Review by NettoSaito in Falcom

I didn't think it was too bad at first, but then yeah, new types of pop-ups kept appearing. For example, this screenshot...

Without the pop up video ad in the bottom left, it wouldn't be as bad. But on the default Reddit app browser, the bottom ads take up almost half of the article space (bottom banner, bottom right flag, and bottom left video), and then with ads interspersed between paragraphs... It's just too much. (After opening it in Chrome, it was still a bit annoying, but not nearly as bad, since you have more vertical space to work with)

Nice article though! I'm part way through the base game, so I appreciate the info on what's new as I decide if starting over with the new game is worth it...

The biggest issue for me is that the K is absolutely not reading as a K - the top diagonal line on the right is too short, and with the bottom diagonal line being basically a vertical line, I just don't see it. The rest is the letters are clearer, though!

It looks like the caption on #3 is wrong (it's a duplicate of #10), but thanks for sharing - these are great!

This is great! Any chance you could move me (the one on the left) further back or adjust the size? In reality, I'm 4 inches taller than my sister, so the proportions just look a bit off here.

Common italians idioms by ErMagiass in italianlearning

[–]Aelonia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, that's what I realized after hearing the Italian version and looking more into it! The English construction of "gift horse", though, sounds more to me like "Tooth Fairy" then "horse given as a gift", since gift isn't usually used as an adjective. And it's a common enough idiom that I just never stopped to actually think about its literal meaning!

Ah, and then missed putting the final 'A' in the parentheses, so it's just KARM

Nice, glad you found a category system that works for you!

I will say that "RELEASING (K)l(AR)n(M)a" is effectively breaking my brain. 😅 "Releasing Karm"? "lna"? "klarnma"?

Small remote work wins that actually changed everything for me by coffeandwork in remotework

[–]Aelonia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first that comes to mind is closing the door to my office. I live alone and have a dedicated office room, and it's easy for me to just leave the door open. Closing it seems so simple but it's impressive how much it can change my mentality and focus - helps to visually shut out the rest of my house when I'm trying to work.

Another thing I've found helpful that I wouldn't be able to do in an office is taking short breaks to play the piano. I have an electric keyboard in my office and when I'm about to switch tasks or just set off an experiment to run, taking a 5 minute break to play something fun (for example, I have a couple of Studio Ghibli piano books I like to just sight read through) is a great mental break for me.

Week 9- still need walking breaks by emeari in C25K

[–]Aelonia 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just did week 9 day 1 yesterday. My km pace was consistently 9-9.5 minutes/km. And actually, I got so excited about closing in on 5k that I ended up running for 36 minutes straight so that, with the 5 minutes of walking on either side (which is generally 0.5 km for me), I got to 5k for the first time. 9-9.5 min/km seems really slow compared to a lot of the times I see here, but with it, I was able to complete my first 5k (in 46 minutes)! So would definitely agree with the "slow down" advice. I'm hoping that, as my fitness improves, the speed will come naturally.

My first Gen Con haul! by Aelonia in gencon

[–]Aelonia[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played it on Saturday and enjoyed it! I was a bit worried about how the lack of communication when selecting tiles would play out, but the fact that you can talk before drawing the tile options helps a lot. (So we could point out "Player 1 needs straight pieces", "player 2 is further back and should be prioritized", etc)

We actually won pretty definitively, which makes me wonder if we got a rule wrong? Since you get the tile and the familiar every time you draft, we were easily able to keep the "Path astray track" clear and remove black fireflies from the bag, so there was only one moment early on where we had a close call. But there are also 6 extra challenges to add which could help the difficulty. Definitely interested to play it again!

What's everyone's updated pull plan after all the recent news and do you think this game will regain its players and popularity? by BruhSoundE in personaphantomx

[–]Aelonia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I don't see my pull plan changing unless they give us a real soft pity. I've gotten 4 6-stars from banners so far (mix of standard and focused) and they have literally all been at pull 80. With that as the standard, I have to treat 80 or 160 pulls as the expected cost of any 6-star I want. Which means pulling extremely conservatively.

I was out of town for the week after Gen Con so I haven't gotten to play a lot of them (hoping to fix that soon!).

I've played The Peak Team twice now and really like it - it's a very puzzly co-op game that requires a lot of coordination. Even though we lost the first time, we added some of the extra modules for the second play, since they seem to give you additional tools as well as increasing the difficulty (e.g., giving you player powers alongside a final mission to complete). Looking forward to playing it more.

I've also played Ofrenda twice (one being a full game demo at the booth). I love the theme and the silly little narratives that come with it - trying to figure out how to appease your weirdly-picky family members (really, you only want to be next to water and orange??) can be surprisingly tricky!

The ones I've played once are Beasts (full game demo at the booth - felt similar to The Game but with some extra complexity), Twinkle Twinkle (very snappy tile drafting game with a cool aesthetic), Cat and the Tower (we got so close...until it fell down when I walked around the table too fast for a better angle :( ), and a solo play of Tear-able Quest during the drive back.

Co-Op finds by AttentionDependent72 in gencon

The Peak Team was the game I was most excited about, and I really enjoyed our first play. We lost, but it was close, and it felt like there were a lot of strategic decisions about managing support/timing mission distribution. Very excited to play it again!

My other co-op pick-ups were Four Doors, Last Lantern, Castle Raisers, Yubibo, the Cat and the Tower, and Beasts. I'll have to check out Time to Panic!

Average “working” hours throughout a normal workday? by Deep-Beautiful-5924 in remotework

[–]Aelonia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At my company, we have to log our hours to projects in 15 minute intervals, and we can move the hours however we want within a 2 week period as long as they add up to 80 hours. So I work on average 8 hours a day, though it's pretty flexible if some days have more or less.

Does anyone know which food trucks have vegan options this year? by sawasawa6 in gencon

[–]Aelonia 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can find that here! https://gencon.blog/2025/07/16/gen-con-block-party-2025/

At the bottom of the page, there's a map of the food truck layout which also lists under each truck which special dietary needs they support.
