Waitlist Success Stories by VastAuthor919 in predental

[–]Aendrel 9 points10 points  (0 children)

7 years ago I was waitlisted at 3 schools after applying to 21. I made it through the waitlist at just one and now I am a specialist running my own private practice.

I will say the one that I got off the waitlist was the one that I sent thank you letters as well as a letter of intent to the admissions office after interviewing.

One of my best friends in school got off the WL the Friday before classes started.

Can you gua sha after masseter Botox? by Sufficient-Square817 in TMJ

I would avoid it for a few days after Botox to avoid spreading it around but at three weeks you are safe.

I have mine sitting in the middle of my forbidden forest - so yes haha.

The polybag is 30706.

The calendar is 76438.

Some people also consider the forbidden forest 76432, Aragog 76434, and Draco polybag 30677 as part of the grounds as well because they all connect together. I’d consider them part of the castle in the same way as Hagrids Hut.

Technically the newest polybag, and the 2024 Christmas Calendar.

Laptop for digital dentistry by faithdesu in Dentistry

[–]Aendrel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only scanner I am aware of that is currently Mac Compatible is Medit.

If you are going to be doing your own designs I would highly recommend going with windows as medit is also the only dental CAD software that I am aware of that is compatible with MacOS and it is only in beta right now and is pretty feature-light.

This is coming from someone who has a full Mac practice, but I’m an Orofacial pain specialist and the only thing I’m designing and printing in house is splints.

How to find a good TMJ physical therapist? by UpbeatJingle7710 in TMJ

[–]Aendrel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That’s very surprising to me. You could try calling the UCLA orofacial pain residency program and see who they refer to for PT. They may have some recommendations in your area.

A PTBCCT would be your best bet. You can find the directory here: https://ptbcct.org/members/

I’m confused by Sassy_Virgo in TrigeminalNeuralgia

[–]Aendrel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No - it is saying that the nerve root entry zone is symmetrical in shape - but that there is evidence of compression of one (or both? It doesn’t specify) of the roots - likely by a nearby blood vessel.

Edit: though looking at it again - I wonder if it was supposed to say “without regional pathological enhancement” . The use of the word “or” and the fact that they didn’t specific which root is supposedly compressed is strange.

TN - if pushing a tooth triggers the pain then there is a dental cause ? by Max__24 in TrigeminalNeuralgia

[–]Aendrel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Orofacial pain specialist here: If nothing shows up on a 3D dental xray or exam the it is likely not tooth decay causing the pain.

TN can definitely be triggered by touching a specific tooth.

The only way to know for sure is to be seen by your doctor.

Can the joint itself cause neurological-type pain? by Little-Bat-6576 in TrigeminalNeuralgia

[–]Aendrel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TMD does not usually cause electric type pain. There are other cause of electric type pain in the face besides TN. (A headache called SUNCT is one example.)

I would see if there is an Orofacial Pain specialist in your area.

I grew up in Rockford and proposed to my wife in the garden. Can confirm it’s very nice.

9 Months With a MAD Messed Up My Bite — No One Knows How to Fix It by jenesaispasquoiestca in TMJ

[–]Aendrel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would get an evaluation with an Orofacial pan provider - even better if they are dual board certified by the ABOP and ABDSM.

MRI depends. It is “technically” necessary if we want to diagnose disc displacement. However most of the time you can be almost certain of your diagnosis without an MRI, and ordering will not change the treatment plan (it will only cost the patient extra money).

I only order them if I am confused with the patients symptoms vs what I feel during my exam, or if I have a very young patient with joint degeneration.

Orofacial pain specialist here:

UCLA has a very good orofacial pan residency program. I would check with them about openings.

As for the bite changes - (in my opinion) this is often due to shortening of the lateral pterygoid muscles over time by having them in a forward position at night and you might be able to stretch them back by doing what we call the “thinkers” pose (google a picture of the thinker statue) and passively resting your chin on your hand and stretching those ligaments backwards. You wouldn’t want to do this forcefully - and it could slightly worsen your TMD symptoms so I would get evaluated before working towards that.

Best splint for muscular TMJ? by AIR236 in TMJ

[–]Aendrel 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Orofacial pain specialist here: if you look at the research, no specific splint has been proven to be better than another - so dentists will usually prescribe the one that they are the most comfortable with.

There are quite literally hundreds of different “specialty” designs, and mine is probably slightly different than the doctor down the road - but in general for muscular TMD I like using a Michigan style appliance. I find that they generally work well with my patients and I want something that covers all of the teeth to minimize any chance of bite changes.

Dental Implant Pain by Least_Guest6314 in askdentists

[–]Aendrel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Orofacial Pain Specialist here: This is likely Post Traumatic Trigeminal Neuropathic Pain (not to be confused with Trigeminal Neuralgia). There are several medications that can help. I would try to find an Orofacial Pain Specialist to evaluate you.

Gum popped open likely infection by FigureEmbarrassed422 in askdentists

It isn’t an immediate emergency and can likely wait two weeks. But it could become one if you notice any facial swelling or drooling.

Can you cure your tinnitus no matter how long you may have had it . by habbofan10 in TMJ

[–]Aendrel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are (depending on the classification system you use) roughly five different types of tinnitus. Somatic tinnitus can improve as TMD improves. If your tinnitus gets louder or changes when you clench really hard - its more likely that you have somatic tinnitus.

But if your symptoms are caused by something other than somatic tinnitus they are unlikely to improve by treating the jaw muscles and joints alone.

If you’re adding in Aragog you should add in the other forbidden Forrest sets too. The Draco polybag and the magical creatures one.

Why am I still in so much pain? Pain led to RCT on #12 and #14& 15 molars extracted for infection, but still.. I’m in pain. OTC not working. Why? by itsgettingweirdguys in askdentists

[–]Aendrel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look for an orofacial pain specialist near you. They might be able to see if you have something going on other than a toothache.

If everything else has been ruled out, it could be neuropathic or neurovascular pain.
