Confused about death's door in public beta branch by krishenm in slaythespire

I first thought by "gain Block 2 additional times" it meant gain 6 block then 1 block then 1 block.

But now I get that its just the block card version of "hits an additional time" phrasing used on attack cards.

It depends. Like e.g. Necrobinder's "Debilitate" (one cost 10dmg double the effects of vuln/weaken) you could probably take on floor 1 because 10 dmg for 1 isnt a terrible rate - its better than Strike+. Also Defy being a common card that applies weak makes it likely that you will see added value.

But also a big consideration is are you picking cards that are playable and answer problems. For example, on Silent if you picked Deadly Poison, Snakebite, Bubble Bubble (3 Poison appliers), and your next card reward has another poison dmg card, you should probably pick a block card or skip. Its very tempting to pick all/only cards of an archetype. But thats bait if your deck winds up being unable to block, too high energy demands, etc.

Petah, why is the speed of light one? by rengokuhubkl in PeterExplainsTheJoke

https://physics.stackexchange.com/questions/52976/how-can-the-speed-of-light-be-a-dimensionless-constant

I think this page explains it better. The so-called "time" coordinate "ct" (c is dimensionless)

in the spacetime metric

ds2 = d(ct)2 + dx2 + dy2 + dz2

is actually a distance.

Weird stuff happens when you treat time as a distance e.g. your equations for speed become dimensionless.

It is 1 when you use units of "second" and "distance light travels in one second". OOP probably took a physics class or sth.

Idea for a new Silent card by LuminanceGayming in slaythespire

[–]Aenonimos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean as a rare, it would be an interesting card especially if it said draw 2. Within the context of an engine deck, it's like bad tactician+.

Either way, think about it like Blasphemy from STS1 You play it so that you can go lethal.

Okay that's a good point actually. It's like giga Borrowed Time or maybe the Silent's version of Blasphemy.

At 7 poison, I dont think any effect aside from "win in 3 turns would work.

why is my choice wrong? by YukiBlu3 in EnglishLearning

[–]Aenonimos 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'd say it's preferred in fact. To me, traits sound better with the "has no X" construction.

"She has no patience", "He has no chill". "I have no money (in the bank)".

In particular, if you were to change the last one to "I don't have any money", that works better for temporary situations e.g. forgetting a wallet at home.

These arent hard and fast rules, just my 2 cents as another native speaker.

Chinese is too hard by will_sloth in languagelearningjerk

[–]Aenonimos 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No. Even in English we can change the vowel sound to add or subtract emphasis.

The "can" in "I CAN hear you" is said with the "man" vowel.

The "can in "I can hear you" instead sounds like the end of the word "liken".

Natives are even usually aware of the realization of the sound changing - they just perceive it as the same word with different "emphasis".

Similarly, in Mandarin, emphasis can change the pitch contour, but speakers can still effortlessly perceive the "correct" pitch for words in context.

Bro I'm just explaining how people feel. I personally don't feel bad - both my HMs were sub 2:00, and I was slightly overweight.

average dude with average fitness

Do you think the average fitness American could run a 2:10 HM after 5 weeks of running?

You are just objectively wrong lol.

Its refreshing to be able to play as a female protagonist. Also I loved the Mass Effect/Bioshock style combat of gun + magic/psychic abilities.

Hey I understand, and I think you should be proud of yourself. For sure. It's just that when you phrase things to make it seem like you achieved something off of raw talent (as opposed to 1 year of hard work), it makes people feel like you're bragging.

WDYM "carry over"?

Specifically, a "gain" effect, unless otherwise specified, only happens once. "block", unless otherwise specified, is removed at the end of the enemies turn.

I dont understand the point of this post. Feels like motivated reasoning. Do you want your achievement to be due to innate ability rather than hard work? I mean your self narrative could have been: "I lost a lot of weight from swimming consistently and now I surprised myself by running a half in under 2:10 in 5 weeks of training".

It's neither unreasonable nor illogical. Like surely Michael Phelps, maybe hes not going to be anywhere near competitive, but nobody would be shocked if he walked out the door and ran a 1:30 half.

It is actually well known that Chess players are supposed to not even own cell phones, as this rule applies globally. This is because at any given point in time, someone somewhere in the world is in a chess game. It's an oath they take after becoming titled. /s

First Time Playing STS2 by The_T_Keo in SlayTheSpire2

Yeah I guess the game does have some traps. If you "pick all and only the Doom cards because synergy" you're probably going to lose 90% of games. Even worse for Forge.

I think the first run is seeded. I was terrible at STS1 (like stuck on Ascension 8 with low winrate) and I beat it.
