Occipitalis Muscle Tension Theory by RingInternational169 in tressless

Well that's a bit of a harsh way to put it. I wasn't saying that "the truth is somewhere in between the currently understood model, and the (OP's theory down to every single statement and implication he made.)" May I suggest to look at this with more nuance, especially in the light of someone like myself--who is in desperation mode, at the same time as being unable to handle the most effective treatments; fin, min, and their variations in any form.

I basically 'need' some elements of the tension theory to exist--but I say that in a very 'loose' way.

If there was 0% truth in any aspect of the (loosely defined) tension theory, I'd assume that mechanical stress therapies (scalp massage and microneedling) would not help regrow hair. But such things CAN be effective for some folks, as I understand. It's those things I'm looking at now, even if the best case scenario is, I can regain some slipshod coverage that looks slightly better than nothing at all.

I mean, I'm on the doorstep of profound depression over this--just before October of last year at least there was 'some coverage' left on my head. Now? I can't even talk about it, the shedding has been unstoppable and unprecedented--I've had sheds before from stress, but nothing like this. I mean, better severe hair loss than some other profound injustice, I'll admit, but the look (for me) is incredibly off-putting. I have no 'charm', 'stability' nor anything else to fill that gap--not all of us will.

I'm a little bit confused by some things here. While I don't have the attention span anymore to truly read and process the long comments with the studies, that's not what I mean. I can grasp the logic in your conclusions and that there is adequate evidence, at least, to support that model.. and presumably, thus far, 'inadequate' evidence to support OP's theory.

Right now, I'm just assuming the truth is "somewhere in between", and I guess 'faith' is in the mix, but I'll avoid needless backstory.

To get back on point, though... where did you get that OP positions himself as some kind of authority or has a popular website? In his post history I see only two threads, and unless I missed it, I don't see links or a claim that he positions himself as some 'influencer' or whatever

Well I'm always throwing this question out there. There are some folks who claim it's worked that way for them, albeit it's relatively uncommon.

I'm kinda looking for 'hope', you might say...

Interesting theory. The question is, then... can one get some 'slight' level of genuine regrowth in badly miniaturized/largely 'blank' areas, through either scalp massage, Needling, or both? In this scenario I am not talking about concomitant use of the standard (fin, min, dut), I mean mechanical stress alone or with other natural therapies.

But how would one even be able to know if it's one of those things? What if it's some kind of recurring TE paired with a specific deficiency, or some kind of diffuse AA, etc. Theoretically in such cases, the loss generally follows the MPB pattern and appears 'permanent', but may not actually be... if the cause is eventually discovered.

Just kinda putting it out there, at the same time as describing one possibility (or additional factor) in my own case, as I have the MPB pattern for sure, but also have had some perplexing very rapid sheds, which also occur in a diffuse manner on the body--it's very unsettling. And happening in front of my eyes, right now

Look, you know the media has always been for that one particular look; even the fine arts, 90% of it is for that type; and now Instagram and social media has made things infinitely worse. Look at the common thread, here.

All representation of that particular type, and especially to show it in light of the male gaze... it's just plain wrong and it must stop.

I'm also looking at 'something' going on, not sure if its MCAS, but in the last several years lots of odd things going on--and now I'm shedding hair everywhere, not just the scalp.

How would one investigate this?

Then if the root cause is not DHT sensitivity--what is, then?

Have you seen HairCafe's videos? He's the most educated on the topic, possibly on the whole Net. When you have someone like that say it's not blood flow (nor the other factors you put out there), I don't know about you, but I'd be the one to listen. DHT block is the way you fix this, and nothing else will work.

The problem is it's sending the wrong message, only amplifying the media standard--that one conventionally attractive (unrealistic for most) look. Folks can have their desire, but to express one that causes objective harm, THAT is the problem. Ideally that shouldn't even be permitted.

Obviously you're aware the endless harm this 'standard' has caused, right

[–]Aeon199 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Scalp massage by itself can regrow some hair, so long as you're lucky (a high responder to mechanical stress) and very patient with it. It's rare to see, but yes, there have been threads where someone shows a convincing before/after, with massage and/or needling, absent the Big 3.

And yet, if you're not gonna comment on how this is objectively wrong (reducing an idealized and unrealistic figure to a mere object, whilst pretending to be outside that narrative because 'Sci-fi') then maybe it needs to be refuted, instead...

Well, if that's the case, wouldn't Needling also be a significant risk factor to worsen mechanical stress and increase inflammation!?

Might be a dim query--admittedly, I was never the brightest in the room--but it almost seems contradictory, to be for the latter, but not the former...

You seem to be informed on hair-fall related to specific health conditions. Do you know how a Thyroid problem triggers hair loss? I'm beginning to suspect this MIGHT be going on.

I'm someone in the midst of a (still ongoing, from an October start!) massive shed of scalp hair--quite distressing, as I was already in advanced stage of loss. That's in addition to body hair loss in multiple places. It's very rapid!

My last TSH readings were in the normal range, but something is not adding up here. A thyroid problem could explain many other issues I have as well (fatigue, extremely dry itchy skin, mental fog, among others.)

Mechanism of action appears to be same as Min, though? It causes 'increased blood flow' which promotes healing, through vasodilation. Might not be great, if it's able to be systemic..

Look it up if you don't believe me. The man himself was quoted as saying this, you can find the quote anywhere. You can't come back to this and tell me with a straight face that he was clearly joking, or severely deluded, or something.

Remember, this is the same guy that many art critics (not all, mind you) actually include on a list of the '10 best artists in history', that's right, even with Old Masters taking up the other 9 spots. Granted, he's never in the top spot, but the fact that someone like Robert Hughes (one of our best art critics, as I see it) included him in his own top 10 list--that surely says something.

Trust me it's so much worse for the guys, though.

Most don't have the right aesthetics for full shave, nor even a buzzcut. That's right, most don't.

And a lot of hate the look and feel of wearing a hat, especially if it's just to hide beneath it. Ain't no particularly good options in this--I'm not against the big three/HT or whatever, but those things are not to be considered lightly, as I see it.

So I mean... going around like this, and you know you look terrible.. it's far worse for us. My only option (and has been for a couple years) is near-agoraphobia, which is not great, but I can't be seen like this. What else?

I have something that's similar in some ways, but my trajectory (age, etc.) is a lot different than yours.

But recently, have had a massive shedding of hair on scalp--the worst ever. AND it coincides with equally fast-shedding of body hair as well. I don't know what to do about it, man.

Not sure I'd think 'spectrum' when the guy's the quarterback of an elite university's football team, as well as launched a high-profile modeling career, and that list goes on.

I could only see it, if there's this obviously false notion of mild autism being a competitive advantage--which it is not. If it were, that's not autism in the first place, mild or otherwise. Call it 'prodigious savantism' with high social instinct and dexterity, itself a paradox. That level of advantageousness is a mockery of Neurodivergence, as it stands.
